Let not be one-sided. S Korean government is a idiot. Conduct military exercise near your potential enemy's border? If they tried to provoke, they got what they deserved.

LOL are you serious? Yes, those two marines deserved to die and the civilians deserved to get injured. They've been doing these exercises near the border for years, which is isn't weird because guess where the fight's going to be if there is going to be one? THE BORDER. NK is just looking for attention and picked a stupid excuse.

Guess what? The tension between N and S rose dramatically in recent years because of the new government/president. Big policy mistake! S should return to the older policy under the previous 2-3 presidents. N and S were on the right track for unification. It cost much less to aid N than conduct numerous exercises and live in fear.

The fact that S. Korea have been doing the military excercises near the border for years does not make it right.

Let's look at it from the N.'s side. You are doing your exercises near my border because you want to be prepared to fight me? Great, maybe I should feel real good about that and welcome you?

How do like Cuba doing their military exercise off the coast of Florida?

This just shows how far China has to go if it wants to join the big-boy club.

    Police your own, China.

I think N Korea's government is one of the worst but you need to look at things from both sides and judge each event on its own. It's the only way to form an opinion and make your own judgement. Otherwise you are just a blind man being led around by your nose.

That could happen if NK launches an attack while something like that is going on but I think all things being equal the PRC won't back NK militarily. There are plenty of reasons for the PRC to prop NK up but I given where the PRC is now I have a hard time seeing them deciding to support NK in an actual shooting war.

Of course the exercises were provocative but at the same time the recent history shows there is good reason for such exercises. NK as a country isn't a rational actor. The regime is clearly more interested in their own survival than they are making things better for their people. They could've taken steps like the PRC and Vietnam to reform their economy to try to improve things for their people. They also could take steps to reduce tensions themselves with SK and the rest of the region but frequently take steps that escalate them.

It was a routine exercise. South does it once a month. This is the first time, north fired back.

No argument from me for the most part except I don't know if "there is good reason for such exercises".

You can not use show of force as a mean to attain peace or co-operation.

It could be interpreted that the N. showed good restraint in the past and the S. kept provoking them? No?

    You have no idea.

Sunshine policy was a colossal mistake. Besides a Nobel peace price, it gave south nothing.

It does not matter whom are dealing with.

If you push people and they can push back, they will. If they can't, they will wait for a chance to get you later, maybe even from the back.

To those that are complaining about South Korean military exercises, are all of you also against Chinese military exercises in the South China Sea that are directed at Taiwan? Is it ok for Taiwan to fire a missile at some Chinese area in response?
