Because of the lack of a salary cap this year and the high probability of a lockout next year.

so what? is schoebel really going to be a diff between us being a superbowl team and a mediocre team? for all the he has done .. he has made ZERO playoff appearances in his career and has admitted to have lost a step... dont get me wrong I feel like he would be a great addition to our team .. but i think people are making him out to be greater than he actually is.

Interestingly, the guy we are brining in Adewale Ogunleye had 3.5 sacks less than schobel last year, while playing in 2 less games and in the last 3 years (due to schobel being hurt one year) he has more sacks and tackles than schobel. even if you take both of the playes 2008 season out their last 2 season than being 2009 and 2007 .. schobel has one more sack than him .. over their 9 year career, schobel has had 11 more sacks and 43 more tackles and 4 more forced fumbles.. that when you average it out per year is not that great of a difference.

Schobel has had a better career than him but at this point in their careers I really dont think he would be that far of a downgrade over schobel.

I prefer Bobby because he put some QB killing hits on Warner and Farve during the playoffs last season. Youtube them

if schobel was asking for above market price, its because his agent understands supply and demand. You need a Defensive player with his skills and you have the worst defense in the league. The Texans didnt bite but a id pay a million dollars for cold glass of water if im in the middle of the desert. The texans arent quite there yet but they are not too far off.

When you GO ALL IN . . . you probably going to overpay someone
Some would say the Lakers overpaid on Artest
but . . they got the championship . . not on gives a **** how much Artest was paid.
He helped bring home the championship.

In the case of the Texans
If Schobel brings them into the playoffs
no one will give a **** how much he was paid.
Hell . . . . Texans will make that money back in merchandise and probably

mcnair is a bad football business man. good with oil, terrible with football

not paying for aaron , the 300,000 difference is why deal didnt happen

not paying up for cowher last winter

then overpaying for schaub and carr

maybe its smith fault. but you cant fire him because the texans will be accused like the astros were of not having enough minorities. (i hope Im kidding but im not sure at this point)

Best thing would be to keep Smith, keep gary, fire bush and hire mike singletary as d coord., and trade matt for local hero (and black) vince young. Everyone would be happy and the texans would be better on O and on D.

I'm really just looking forward to next years draft where we once again ignore our major needs and draft 4 Tight Ends who rarely if ever play, as usual. I LOVE that part!

texans needed a corner, they drafted a corner.
needed a RB, they drafted a RB
needed a DT, they drafted a DT.
AN additional TE wasnt too bad considering 2 were coming 3 were coming off knee surgery.
at that point in the draft, you start taking players based on talent/potential because it's such a crapshoot.

i don't know how they're not there yet...i don't know how, with respect to pass rush, they haven't been there for their entire franchise existence.

the pass rush and secondary issues are dire right now...provided the team is serious about taking the next step.
