So apparently, Mayweather is taking another year off from boxing. You can't talk all that crap and stay inactive for year. Fight Manny or at least someone else, then you can talk all the smack you want.

The latest I've read was Pacquiao agreed to Mayweather's "demands" in the latest failed negotiations. Mayweather's camp claimed negotiations never occurred, and then some official from the boxing commission or whatever came out and said they indeed occur and he was the liaison between both camps.

He stated that Team Pacquiao agreed to May's terms and were awaiting a response. One that never came.

If this is all true/accurate, sure seems like ducking to me. Especially if he has time to make a video like this, but completely ignore the negotiations and doesn't even touch the subject.

I am getting tire of people keep compare boxing to MMA, true that the objective of both sport is to beat the other person senseless but there are many different rules and style of play.

If you take soccer and american football, both of these sport has the same objective heck even the same name, getting the ball to the other side, but the different is how they does it. I am willing to bet there is no soccer team in the world that can beat even the crappiest NFL's football team using NFL's rules and the saint will be lucky to score a goal against a decent high school soccer team using MLS's rules

Hasn't Pacquiao said repeatedly that he will soon focus solely on his political career? So in that year span, Pacquaio goes on to leave boxing, is Floyd gonna come back and say I want fight but Poochiao is ducking?

Don King isn’t shocked by what he’s seen of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s behavior in the last two weeks. He doesn’t like it, and he’s not about to condone it, but it didn’t come as any great surprise to him.

Nor does the loquacious boxing promoter believe, however, that Mayweather’s actions make him a despicable person.

On Sept. 1, Mayweather was best known as arguably the world’s finest boxer, an outspoken, trash-talking character who clearly had become the sport’s biggest draw. But on Sept. 2, he posted a bizarre, hate-filled rant on uStream.com, during which he referred to rival Manny Pacquiao as a midget and a “yellow chump,” used a derogatory slang term to describe a homosexual and said that after beating Pacquiao, he would force the Filipino congressman to “make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.”

King, who had several well-publicized meetings with Mayweather in the middle of the summer in an attempt to convince the fighter to hire him as his promoter, condemned Mayweather’s actions but not the man himself.

He called the rant and the domestic dispute “frustrations of the ghetto expressing themselves,” and suggested Mayweather needed to be educated, not jailed.

“He grabbed onto sport to be able to escape,” King said. “He’s a master in his sport, but that don’t make him a Rhodes scholar. He’s not erudite in other things. No one can explain him unless they can understand him.

“When you’re in the street, the jargon, the vernacular, is altogether different. You have to understand that. In order to bring change about, you need respectability and responsibility. You have to be able to be taught, and this is what Don King would be able to do with him because I understand where he’s coming from. If you don’t know where you’re coming from, you don’t know where you are going.”

King suggested that a lot of Mayweather’s problems stem from being an African-American man in a white-dominated society. He said Mayweather hasn’t learned how to successfully work with other people and that he’s struggling to deal with his fame and notoriety.

Mayweather’s fame has only made the issue worse, King said.

“What you are seeing here are frustrations of the ghetto expressing themselves,” King said. “It’s nothing that is seriously wrong and it’s nothing that isn’t commonplace in the ghettos throughout the whole United States, throughout the ‘hood. But Floyd, being one who has achieved and accomplished such a great deal, it’s personified like he’s the second coming.”

King said young African-American men often have a difficult time understanding their responsibilities. He said those are lessons he learned long ago and would like to impart to Mayweather.

Being a man means more than just being a world-class boxer, King said.

“He takes one thing from manhood – he can throw a left hook, a right hand and a right cross – and he’s superb at that,” King said. “But manhood takes more than a left hook, a right hand and a right cross. It takes respect for your elders. It takes respect for women. Your Mama was a woman. We must respect women. There ain’t no men dropping babies, least not that I know of. But this is all about education.

“He has sharpened his skills in the talent of fighting. He has become a fighting machine, one of the best in the world. But he didn’t sharpen his skills, with no one to tell him, about morality, about being able to deal with people and being able to understand that you are your brother’s keeper and that you can do this without being a punk. In the ghetto, they say, if you can’t take care of your woman, you ain’t nothing. It’s a misconstrument of his manly obligations and responsibilities, based upon a guideline that has been here for hundreds of years.”

King promoted former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson after Tyson was released from prison after serving three years on a rape conviction. Five of Tyson’s first six bouts after his release were on pay-per-view, which averaged an astounding 1.52 million sales.

He had a rocky relationship with Tyson, though, and Tyson eventually sued him, though the two recently reconciled. King said he could help Mayweather iron out his problems and remain the dominant force in boxing because he alone among boxing promoters understands the roots of Mayweather’s problems.

“I am one of those who has mastered the situation of working with people,” King said. “I never got mad at the white man for what he did to the black man, because I got a PhD in caucasianism and I graduated summa c*m laude. The only way you can understand (Mayweather) is to walk in his shoes. When you walk in his shoes, then you’re able to bring about change, because it’s direly needed. Change is in the air, but you have to pick them up and let them gradually understand that what is happening is wrong and that this is right.

“You’re right to condemn his actions, based on your perspective and your education and the life you’ve lived. … Having fame, acclaim and affluence doesn’t mean he’s gained the knowledge and understanding of peoplehood. People need each other. You have to have respect for each other. It brings along with that a responsibility to have respect, being able to contain yourself, having discipline, being able to understand that the world is not centered upon you. It is not I, I, I. It is we, us, togetherness. I can bring this knowledge to him, because I have walked in his shoes and been where is.”

The irony in this thread is comical. Guy starts a thread with racist title and overtly racist first sentence to trash a guy for being racist. Everybody jumps on board with the bashing and completely agrees with his take while trying to seem holier than thou, because he sees it from their point of view. Just about nobody seems to care they latched onto a racist thread to take their shots at Floyd for being racist. This one should be saved as a classic.

Would any of mma fighters last 5 min in a fencing contest with an Olympic fencer? Give both people real swords and see how it goes :grin: It's just different sports. Until mma in America start legalizing knees to a downed opponent, small joint manipulations, hitting to the back of the head, it's just another "SPORT" like boxing, and different sports train for different things.

P.S. I like mma more than boxing, just tired of MMA fans dissing boxing because James Toney lost. It'd be like dissing sprinting if Usain Bolt failed at futbol.

MMA in America will never legalize those things. They had to make rules against those kinds of things to get legalized in various different states and to allow MMA to get mainstream coverage. They are trying to shed the "bar room fight" label.

Fear KOs Mayweather & Pacquiao’s poise

CALIFORNIA, United States—Even though it’s unclear if the dream fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will ever happen, Mayweather has already lost.

Pacquiao didn’t beat him. Fear did.

That much is evident in the infamous Web video of his racist rant against Pacquiao. Much of the focus has been on what he said which surely would send a chill down the spine of even the most die-hard boxing fans.

No need to repeat his words here. Instead, try this: Watch the clip again, but turn the sound off.

Watch Mayweather’s eyes, the way his face twitches and contorts, as he unleashes his hateful barrage, as he tries to put down this Filipino who, apparently to his surprise and extreme agitation, has mesmerized the world.

And you can see an undefeated boxer wrestling with perhaps the toughest opponent a fighter could face: His own fear.

I’m not talking about fear of physical pain. Certainly, there’s no doubt that Mayweather is a tough guy.

But it’s fear that this house of cards he built for himself, in which he probably sees himself as the greatest fighter of all time, can all come crashing down just like that because of a pesky Filipino who astounded the world.

So even though Pacquiao and Mayweather may never actually face each other in the ring, given the frustrating negotiations that most boxing observers say failed because Team Floyd was playing games, Mayweather has already lost big time.

On that video, Mayweather went down, hitting the ring floor hard, out for the count.

The Pacman’s response, through his spokesman, was perfect: “The video speaks for itself.”

That’s poise from a true champion. (Granted, he may have other, less poised words for Mayweather that he may have uttered in private, but at least he’s smart enough not share them publicly.)

The on-again, off-again Pacquiao-Mayweather encounter has even prompted former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield to weigh in.

Now, there’s a champion with a healthy, positive perspective on boxing—and on winning and losing.

I remember watching him on TV before one of his fights—Holyfield was in his locker room, singing Christian songs and dancing. That was his way of loosening up before a fight. (And the guy is so cool, he even later competed in Dancing With the Stars.)

In an interview with The Sun in England, he said Mayweather has more to lose in a showdown with Pacquiao because he has never lost, and appears to dread losing.

“If Pacquiao loses it doesn't hurt anything because he's a nice guy and people never expected him to be up there anyway,” Holyfield told The Sun. “Mayweather's got more to risk because Pacquiao's lost before and I think he proves why it's so important to be a good guy.”

Referring to a fellow heavyweight, he added: “Michael Moorer once said that people will always like me regardless of whether I win or lose—and that's because I don't brag about what I do…I know that each and every time I box I'm going to give my all—and Pacquiao is exactly the same.”

That’s not to say Mayweather will have an easy time against Pacquiao, he added. The fact that Pacquiao is such a strong, fast, smart fighter is probably what makes Mayweather worried.

“Mayweather is a spot fighter, whereas Pacquiao will throw more punches and fight all the time,” Holyfield continued. “If you ain't punching he's still punching, if you're punching he's still punching back.”

It is truly sad that Mayweather was led to believe that to be a winner, one has to keep winning. And he has latched on to that misguided belief so tightly that he ended up a loser.

He may still end his career as an undefeated fighter. Mayweather may even beat Pacquiao if they ever meet in the ring. But his legacy will forever also be defined by his arrogance, underscored by that video.

On the other hand, let’s imagine Pacquiao losing to Mayweather. He would probably say something like this: “It was a great fight. I tried my best. But Floyd was the better fighter today. I congratulate him.”

Then he’ll move on.

He’d focus back on his new love, politics. I’m not a big fan of the Pacman on the trapo trail, but his taking the lead in the fight to stop human trafficking is a good start.

And even if he loses to Mayweather, Pacquiao will join the ranks of the greatest boxers in history, those who were brilliant in the ring, but never lost their sense of decency and sportsmanship in a brutal sport where it is so easy to do so—as Mayweather has clearly demonstrated.

Pacquiao will join the likes of Muhammad Ali, who gave up his title to take a principled stand against war.

He’ll be up there with Sugar Ray Robinson, Flash Elorde, and Joe Louis. I’d even include Max Schmeling, the German champion Louis defeated, who was supposed to symbolize Adolf Hitler’s Germany, but who, it was later revealed, was a great human being: He helped some Jews escape from the Nazis, and even aided Louis when he needed help.

Fighters with class.

Of course, Pacquiao can also have some fun once as he enjoys his days as an ex-boxer. He may follow Holyfield’s lead and become a contestant on Dancing With the Stars
