That would be 19 games missed if he sat 1 of the 2 games on a back to back. I bolded 12 games that seem pretty winnable if the Rockets decided to have "scheduled" rest days for Yao. BTW I put the quotes around scheduled since I don't think it should be announced to the public months in advance, but maybe just a game time decision sort of announcement. That would give Yao a 70 game regular season.

I wouldn't mind if he had more rest games if possible as well. Maybe somewhere between a 62 to 70 game season if he is completely healthy. IMO it's not 5-10 extra minutes per game (given that his conditioning and strength is adequate) that will injure Yao, but lack of rest days when they can be given. Basically, I think he should be given games to rest no matter how many minutes per game he is playing.

edit...I have no clue why these *'s appeared after I posted the thread, but they did. So just try to ignore them.

Depends. Yes if we have Melo. No if we don't have Melo.

What chances do you think we have at getting Melo? What do you think he'll cost?

for now are chances are pretty slim at getting melo, because new jersey has the most to offer, but it depends on melo if he wants to play for a crappy roster in the east or for a title contender with chris rock as pg in the west.

do you think budinger, taylor and picks for melo is reasonable??
thats a lot more than favors williams and picks imo

I'm too shocked to speak. I honestly can't believe that someone started a non-Carmelo thread in the GARM.

I pick #3. I think you play Yao every game but just play small minutes.

the problem with missing "winnable" games is that the opposing teams will take that as a disrespect and play even harder on those nights

I think Yao should get rest when he needs rest. It's that simple.

If I were running the show, I'd have him play on the second night of back to backs.

I'm surprised more teams don't try that (instead of only playing the first night) - gives you one set of fresh legs when the rest of the team is tired.

Well if he looks good then no, but if he's clearly struggling, sit him out one game on back to backs like they did with Tmac.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have Yao skip games that are not winnable? What's the point of having him play if you're going to lose anyway?

or it would make them feel even more insecure about themselves and they would quit!

i don't think we should let it get to the point where he is struggling due to possible injury. prevention is the best way to go if possible.

Interesting counter point. My feelings on this are that dogs are clearly superior to cats in terms of likeable pets. If Carmelo was a cat and Yao was a dog which one would you want? It is also interesting to note there is a 'd' in dog. DD is against Carmelo coming here. This is not a coincidence imo.

So to summarize I think Yao should miss 15% to 25% of the season for rest.

I'd like to see him go against likely playoff teams rather than rest against them. Plus, I don't really see any non-winnable games. Honestly, it looks like 38-0 to me on those games I posted.

    Opinions?

I chose the middle option, but whatever the doctors think is best is what I would go by.

Yao is going to be glowing by the end of the year with all those XRays emitting from his foot.

I guess the idea is we can beat crappy teams without Yao

It would be up to the judgement of the doctors, training staff, Adelman, and Yao himself. I would hope that they know by now how to maximize protocols to prevent further injuries to Yao.

At this point, they know best and let us trust that they really do. It may be a gamble to some extent but they are the professionals and they should know better than us fans.
