Unless AB develops into an all star player, I don't see anybody offer him 10mil. Lowry is getting 6 mil and AB isn't that much better than him. 7-8 mil will be the ceiling for an undersized shoot first PG.
Let's see how both players develop this season before deciding which one too keep. You know, like Morey is probably doing.
The flaw in that argument is that Rafer was clearly struggling, and right now, but Brooks and Lowry are playing well. But you keep the guy that is playing 36 minutes over his backup when push comes to shove. DD
Nope, nothing wrong with my argument. Its purpose was to demonstrate that your Landry analogy was flawed. Every situation is different. You can't take one example and apply it whenever you like.
With his restricted status and the new CBA coming up, there's no way Morey extends him midseason. Depending on how he and the team perform this year w/ Yao back in, we'll see if we're going to double down or start going in another direction. Either way, I can't see him getting more than $8mil per over 4 years, especially under a new CBA. He's a great scorer, but he's a liability on D. If we don't go deep in the playoffs, I'd guess he'd get traded for a bigger name.
he basically is an all star. there are so many good point guards in the league he gets underrated. the league is stacked with pg. for 10 mil, he is definitely worth a 4 year 40 million dollar deal. the guy has moxie. he's clutch, and for clutch city i like him. he did have 34 points vs the lakers in game 4 without yao when no one thought we would show up. he is a big game performer and a proven winner
i have always felt like brooks was sort of like a throwback from the title days teams. he would have fit in incredibly with that team. the kenny smith and cassell are a lot like brooks and lowry combo. except lowry doesn't shoot 3's
everything is remained to be seen, I dont think Morey has made his mind either. Brooks has too obvious physical limitation and holes in his game to be a legit allstar, he scored 19pt in 16 shots, I dont know how he would adapt when his shots taken away by the big man. Brooks has to improve and change his games, become much more efficient, contribute a lot more when he is not scoring, or I wouldnt pay him more than 9mil per year. I mean he is at the same level as Scola, but less efficient.
I hope you're right, and maybe we tend to overvalue our players, but AB isn't due for a raise until next summer. What if we keep him and he averages 20 points and 6 dimes, shooting over 40% from behind the arc? It's not impossible. He'll have two excellent shooters to pass to that he didn't have for all or most of last season and he'll have a ton of open looks. Now that's a "problem" I'd like to have. Pure speculation, of course, and nothing new, but if AB managed it he'd be looking at a nice contract number, from us or someone else, assuming the money is out there.
If he's playing like that and we're winning, why would we want to? That's a heck of a lot of production for a very small contract this season, and worth what he'd probably want next summer in a deal. Sure, he's mediocre on the defensive side, but a player's offense sells tickets. That would make a possible deal for Iggy pretty attractive if we could keep Brooks and Martin. He would help tremendously covering up some of that defensive weakness in the backcourt. I'm not sold on moving Brooks. It has to be for the right deal.
Yes, depending on who is involved. I'm concerned about Paul's knee. If his knee was OK, then I'd rather get him, if it's possible. Iggy is a good third choice after those two.
What was Bobby Jacksons contract looking like relative to his back up pg/instant scorer off the bench/6th man of the year position on the team? Because that is going to be ABs role if we can pull off a Chris Paul mmtrade.
I think his season as we measure it will not be as good as the last. I think with Yao coming back ad KMartin emerging, AB will get less shots. Last year, he was the defacto 1st scoring option. This year he won't be. He is not a facilitator either, which will be his role this year. If he can master that, the i would agree he is worth every penny of 4 years/$40 M.
Except Morey didn't give Landry a "you're the future" sized contract that was arguably more than Landry was worth like he just gave to Lowry. The writing is on the wall for Arron Brooks and it says he will be moved.
