or another injury could doom our chances. not that Melo seems particularly interested in the future success of his new team though.

just like him resigning with us could be speculative bs,

extend then trade is only way I would think of getting him here if i have to give up young talent and picks.

its called leverage to get out of Denver, he will say what the public wants to hear and apparently your hearing it all, bs and all.

oh and btw, NY has money, so by next year they can change deeply, why does melo care about what they have this year?

If Morey's good we'd Melo to agree with the extention first..

That been said, we got tmac using 3 of our starters. Brooks is due to a big pay raise next year, possibly in the 8-9million range, together with Martin's 11million, those are long term burdens for the Rockets.. If Morey believes the most worthy contracts are Rookie Contracts and Max Contracts, then I do think Morey'll be willing to move BOTH Martin and Brooks for a superstar with max, while trying to keep young prospects like Hill, Patterson and even Lee, and of course those valuable NY picks.

+3Million cash, and move Jeffries's expiring might even get Rockets under the tax with 1 trade! Thinking about it..Getting a superstar wing, keeping young prospects and picks, pick up some cash for getting under tax

There's been a lot of Carmelo Anthony trade chatter this week, but the Nuggets currently don't have a GM.

And as the Denver Post reported, the team won't make a "concrete decision" on trading Anthony until a new GM is in place.

Additionally, the Post reported via two league sources that Nuggets management "has talked about whether the team should at some point pursue a trade if Melo won't sign the extension but has not made a definitive decision either way."

So far, Denver hasn't discussed trades with other teams for Anthony, according to the sources speaking to the paper.

The Post also reported that an announcement on a hire could come next week, and former Phoenix Suns executive David Griffin is the current leading candidate for the GM position.

Yet, FanHouse reported an announcement could come as soon as Thursday.

Either way, don't expect a resolution on Anthony from the Nuggets until a GM is in place, though signs appear to still be pointing to a divorce at some point in the near future.

    -- Ryan Corazza

The Knicks are certainly in the hunt for Carmelo Anthony if Denver indeed decides to trade him.

When rounding up chatter on a potential trade offer earlier this week, we noted the Knicks' offer could center around Danilo Gallinari.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported on Thursday that "there are reports that the Knicks' offer would include Eddy Curry's expiring contract, a future first-round pick and Gallinari, although Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni will try to replace Gallinari with Wilson Chandler in a proposed trade for Anthony."

But that's apparently not good enough for Denver.

"What do they have?" a Nuggets source told Isola. "That makes it tough."

We suppose if the Knicks were to toss in Anthony Randolph or Kelenna Azubuike into this deal along with Gallo and Curry, the Nuggets might be more tempted.

But as the reported offer stands, the Knicks may have some trouble prying Anthony out of Denver if he becomes available.

Seriously...if the Knicks get melo through trade...then i'll know this league is fixed.

Sorry, but it's true. They have nothing when it comes to young assets. Nets and Rockets, however...

The press is missing the point. It doesn't matter what the Denver management or future GM feels about the trade proposals from other teams!

Melo is the only one calling the shots here! That's because he has to agree to sign an extension (S&T) before any other teams are going to trade for him. And he is going to sign it only if he is happy about his new team. Denver has no choice over their trading partner. If they get too choosy, Melo can simply coast through the next season and then become a free agent.

If the Knicks get Melo then that doesn't show that the league is fixed. It shows that Melo was set on signing with NY no matter what when he is a free agent. If he has decided that he wants to play for any team with the cap space to sign him outright then there isn't much that Denver can do.

    well put Ice.

It's not like the Knicks have had an abundance of great players fall into their laps lately. They've been more of a clearing house of bad contracts.

The biggest difference is that Kobe actually plays defense. And it's a huge difference.

Kobe actually is a superstar, although he's somewhat overrated too because of his fantastic supporting cast.

BTW, did anybody notice that Carmelo was saying to Brooks at the 4:00 mark?

Something along the lines of " I'll be with you next season, bro!"

Most of what is stated in this post is pretty much the way I would work it. I trust that DM will make the best decision for the Rockets though.

But, but...Melo has the BAD character and has tattoos ? Surely you don't want THAT on the team? Even at just a 3 year extension instead of a 6 year deal?

Me thinks you've forgotten the CBA, which is set to expire. And it's almost a given that in the new CBA, players won't be getting quite as much.

Which means, Melo HAS to sign the extension sometime during the season. Frankly, it's what is prompting all the current trade discussion. Yes, obviously the Nuggets would want to get something either way, but in most scenarios they likely would, as even if Melo becomes a free agent in the offseason, he would prefer to pursue a sign and trade at that point in order to get the longer contract with the higher $ amounts. The Nuggets would get back some assets in such a deal. But from Melo's perspective, he knows that he will be doing so under the terms of the new CBA, which means less money for him.

It's why he doesn't have the bargaining power Bron, Bosh and Wade did. Melo is trying to figure out a way to get to a team of his choosing, and sign the max extension. One would have to assume this is how the Rockets entered the picture. The Knicks have no assets to trade. The Nuggets are better off if they, and likely they have, played hardball here. "Melo, we know you want to go to the Knicks, but we'd actually like to get something tangible back in a trade, so why don't you pick another team or go ahead and just become a free agent, see how you like getting paid less under the new CBA"

    Hence, the expanded list.
