AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Tracy McGrady doesn't see himself as an old, broken-down basketball player.

He's hoping that his free-agent deal with the Detroit Pistons will help him prove that to the NBA.

"It's not like I'm 41 or even 35," McGrady said after signing a one-year, $1.3 million contract Monday. "I just turned 31. No one has come down and stolen away my talent -- I still have a lot in the tank."

Knee problems have limited McGrady to just 65 games over the past two years, and he struggled to make an impact last season with New York. In 24 games with the Knicks, all starts, he averaged just 9.4 points.

"I was coming back from an injury, and I wasn't healthy enough to play the way that I will be able to play this season," he said. "The difference between my knee last year and this year is night and day."

McGrady knows that years of back problems and microfracture surgery on his knee mean that he won't be the same high-flying superstar who led the NBA in scoring in 2002-03 and 2003-04. But he still thinks he can be an impact player.

"I probably can't dunk on guys like I did against Memo Okur here in 2003 -- I hope that's not still a bad memory for Pistons fans -- but I can still put the ball in the hole," he said. "Even last year, when I wasn't recovered, there were two or three games where I was able to take things over for the Knicks. I'm going to be able to do that more this year."

McGrady is also optimistic about working with Pistons conditioning guru Arnie Kander. Kander is widely credited with reviving the career of another veteran who came to Detroit after devastating knee injuries -- Antonio McDyess.

"Because of what Arnie did for Dice, I know I'm going to be in great hands here," he said. "He's had me doing some crazy things, but he's the best in the league, so I'm going to do whatever he says."

Are you honestly surprised? This is T-Mac we are talking about. With the amount of talking he does about himself and his game, you would think the guy orgasms to his own voice and fantasies.

McGrady really just needs to shut up for a while. Or forever. That could work, too.

It would help if people here wouldn't start a brand new McGrady thread every two days instead of using one already existing.

Then what will clutchfans have to b**** about if he shuts up? They need to him keep his mouth open so they can come on here and type him to death!! Without T-Mac, they are nothing. He fuels them.

Gee, that sounds SO familiar. I'm I in a time-warp or is someone talking out of his a$$?

But I really can't fault the guy for wanting to give it another go though...but this has got to be a do-or-die year for him. He is going to have to earn his million this year or no one will even give him a try out next year.

Maybe their trainer can do what Grover could not.

It was not the knee right, but the core...

    LOL...WTF ever.

Pistons will trade Prince and/or RIP before training camp, IMO.

Yeah, we all agree that he should stfu which is right.

But it would have been kinda silly. He is introduced in Detroit, press is asking him tons of questions and he answers: No comments on that. I will let my game speak for myself.

hilarious tofs. clutch city fuels clutchfans, this has always been the truest path.
until the additions of yao and tmac, the community has been nothing but pure braveheart rocket fans. yao fans we understand the influx and why the way they are, but the tmac fans have no true loyalty to anything but to him. Yao was based on national pride for a country.

for all the stupid and wasted crap that tofs put on here, 'he's better than kobe', 'it's rick adelman's fault, it's yao's fault, the rockets should have let him ...'
we're here to finish you off like Hakeem did Robinson, cause the true MVPs are the real Clutchfans, those who are only loyal to the Rockets.

So he admitted he wasn't ready to play last year. That's admitting that --

    a) he's a liar
    b) he AGAIN put himself before the organization
    c) every issue with the rockets/adelman/morey was about his ego, not about them disrespecting him

See what i mean folks? you rarely see tinmac speaking on current news, but when its tmac, you can count on him being front and center! i respect him for his love of tmac. he never misses a thread! that is what you call dedication to a player. bravo tinmac! no tmac news = no tinman. then where would we be?
