    Barkley bests Malone in:

    FG% (.541 to .516)
    eFG% (.558 to .518)
    TS% (.612 to .577)
    FTA/FGA (0.55 to 0.50)
Assists per game (3.9 to 3.6)
Rebounds per game (11.7 to 10.1)
Three Pointers Made (538 to 85)
    PER (24.6 to 23.9)
    ORtg (119 to 113)
    WS/48min (.216 to .205)

All while Malone was being fed cookies by arguably the best passing PG ever. You could definitely craft an argument for Malone being a greater player due to his longevity and durability (both basically the results of his much greater conditioning), as well as his superior defense (though I personally think Chuck's advantages on offense and the boards makes up for his defense). That said, Chuck's a lot closer than you seem to be giving him credit for.

False... Barkley was a far more dynamic player. Quickness, power, finesse...

Charles Barkley could bring the ball up the court, slash, pass, shoot...

"Charles Barkley was the best player on the 92 dream team..."

    Magic Johnson

Phila Barkley was FAR more dominant than Malone at ANY point in his career.

Not to mention the Stockton effect...

Malone only deserved one of his MVP awards. He won the first one because people didn't want to give it to MJ again.

I don't give a hot damn about Malone and Stockton. No sympathy. I don't care how good they were.

i don't think that matters. i don't hear people talk about nash not deserving his MVPs nowadays.

it's in the history books. malone was a 2-time MVP.

and statistically and accolades-wise, he was better than charles.

But Malone wasn't really better statistically than Barkley (see dharocks post above). Barkley was the more efficient scorer and the better rebounder.

actually, Baylor was the Dr. J of his generation.

Baylor was a high-scoring 3 that can rebound. at the time of his retirement, he was the NBA's 2nd all-time rebounder, behind Chamberlain.

the best shooting guard, MJ's position, in Baylor's generation, were either Mr. Clutch, the logo, or John Havlicik

the best player in the league in Baylor's generation, was either Bill Russell or Chamberlain.

Give it 2 weeks when AI doesn't have a team and it'll be him.

Stockton??? Take Malone off the Jazz and Stockton has about 5,000 less assist. He couldnt create his own offense or takeover games by himself, theres no way he should be on this list.

People forget how good Iverson was in the beginning of his career, he was downright scary. Hands down the best under 6 foot player ever.

Back to the question, I'd say Malone, Barkley

Hogwash. He's the best SCORER under 6 foot. Other than that, i'm taking Isiah Thomas over AI anyday of the week.

He couldn't create his own offense? Have you seen how the guy play? He could create his own offense at the age 40.

I hate to defend the dude. But give him some credit. Just because he was not flashy doesn't mean he couldn't create.

This sums up my view. Other's backed it up with stats too. I voted for Malone for his entire career, but at his peak Barkley was more dominant.

I would say the 1st MVP was more questionable than the 2nd. The 2nd one def. should have gone to Duncan, better stats and a better team record, so maybe Malone should have earned zero.

On the other had in 98 he lead the Jazz to the best record--which is strongly weighted in MVPs, but Jordan got the MVP (probably a make up for the previous year). So 98--when he didn't get it, he had a better case than winning years in 97 & 99. All in all, 1 MVP is fair, same as with Barkley (when he lead the Suns to the best record).

Also, I don't think there is a real case for anyone aside from Barkley, Malone or Baylor.

None of the rest dominated in as many phases and most people would say Malone was a more dominant force on Stockton's team. If you bring up Wilkens you have to bring up guys like Gervin, Ewing, Deke, Iverson, Maravich, Webber, Miller, Tmac--and their is a clear difference in the likes of this group to Barkley/Malone/Baylor caliber.
