I thought when he comes back the D will start clicking, but it seems the emphasis on D is just disappearing as a team identity. I think when yao comes back our D might get better, but I don't think are going to return to being an elite defensive team.

It seems like we shifted from one extreme and are going the other way.

No he won't unfortunately. Our back-court is going to get destroyed.

They need to do a much better job to stop the penetration to the basket.

Cure, hell no. Bring it up to par, most definitely. I think the only way we can "cure" our D is if we bring back Thibbedeau.

By himself no. I think the Rockets try to add another shot blocker to team.

    Yes, he will.

Because he will stop the layup line at the rim, and allow our perimeter players to be more aggressive.

And it is not about the blocked shots so much but the numerous other shots he intimidates.

We will instantly go to top 5 again in D with Yao guarding the rim, IMO.

The bigger question: will he come back?

That, is the only question, IMO.

When Yao comes back, Lowry should start the game with the first unit. He will definitely seal some a hole or two at the back-court. Brooks can be off the bench and fire all he wants. Depending on the scores, either Lowry or Brooks can finish a game.

the even bigger question: when he does come back, can he play an entire season and playoff run?

I agree. Also, the Rockets were really good at funneling players his way to set up some bad shots. The rebounding will also improve and just the sheer space he occupies.

It doesn't look like kmart is even trying half the time he just wants to get down the floor and score.

The Rockets wont give up as many points in the paint with Yao in there, so yes, our D will improve. No more layup drills when Brooks is in the game.

We don't need to be top 5 in D like the previous seasons - we have a significantly better O now. I think a top 10 D would suffice.

I agree, having Yao's size in the paint will be night and day for our defense. Just look at the Lakers. Apart from Ron Ron, and maybe Kobe when he wants to, none of their players are elite defensive players, yet their length makes them a formidable top 5 defensive team in numbers.

We need to make Coach Tom of Boston our Head Coach.
The Adelman game has turned one of the NBA's best defensive teams into what we are today. :p
