Defense, Mayo is better at it. He's also not a bad offensive player, he would also be a combo guard, could run the point as well.

Is it any wonder that the Rockets had early season struggles when they were trotting out Trevor Ariza, rookie Chase Budinger, and sometimes Lowry as the shooting guards? Bringing Trevor Ariza into nervous breakdowns? Thats a lot of scoring talent at the position.

Kevin Martin isnt the greatest most perfect player but he SURE does address a need. Out of the AVAILABLE players, Rockets did about as good as they can do.

IMO Martin is not better than Ellis or Stephen Jackson.

He is in a different class from those two. Ellis scores 1.15 points per shot attempt (not even including turnovers, he has many more). Jackson scores 1.18.

Since Martin has joined the Rockets, he has scored 1.38 points per shot attempt.

That is a huge difference, and he is far better than either of those players.

but that's only looking at the scoring aspect tho, Overall, I would say Ellis and Jackson are no less than Martin, if not better

Not too sure about Ellis, but I've always seen Jackson as nothing but a chucker. I would much rather have Martin than him.

Both of those guys are terrible on defense. I would rate them as being as bad as or worse than Martin.

Stephen Jackson is pretty good on defense, and he's a better playmaker as well.

He's like T-Mac, he could be good if he focused, but he almost never does.

are you kidding??? there are plenty of better "pure" scorers

    wade>martin
    james>martin
    kobe>martin
    roy>martin
    durant>martin

martin can't create the shots that those guys can... he can't score at will like they can...

a bigger guard can shut him down, no way anyone shuts down kobe 1v1

and those are only 2/3's... if you take other pure scorers, there'd be at least > 20 ppl... Dirk, JJohnson, etc.

And yes, Martin CAN create for himself. He does it mostly by drawing fouls, which is one of the most efficient ways.

Did you just say that Kobe Bryant is not a greater scorer than Kevin Martin?

He's been pretty good in charlotte. He needs a discplined coach to bring it out of him.

For his career, of course he is better. He's a lock for the HoF. But his efficiency has been in a serious decline for the last few years, and right now? Absolutely, at their current skill levels (Martin in his prime, Kobe declining) he is worse.

I am liking Martin more each game. He could have shot better but he makes up in so many ways with his passing and drawing fouls. Some nights he scores 20 and you wonder when did he score those 20? Even when he scores 30 it seems like he can do more without even trying.

This season, Kobe plays more minutes per game, score more points per minute, and his true shooting% is virtually identical to Martin's. Kobe is also much more effective in 4th quarters when the game is close. He may be in decline, but he remains one of the best scorers in the game.

Don't assume that just because a guy is more famous and the NBA's advertisers are all over his nutsack that means he's better.

Kobe is scoring 1.25 points per shot attempt to Martin's 1.38 points per shot attempt.

Martin is a vastly underrated scorer, and Kobe is vastly overrated, especially in today's game.
