There were the rivalries between the Lakers and Celtics in the 80s, Bulls and Pistons in the late 80s, Bulls and Knicks in the early to mid 90s, Knicks and Heat in the late 90s, and Lakers and Blazers a couple years ago. So what's the best rivalry in the game today? I don't think there's any historical rivalry in the game today, but the best would probably be Lakers and Kings. That rivalry has a chance to be big. The WCF between the 2 teams was a hell of a series to watch.
Lakers Kings Celtics 76ers Lakers Blazers Rockets Jazz Im sure there are more, but there just arent very many great rivalries in todays NBA.
The Rockets/Jazz rivalry USED to be one of the NBA's best until Utah won about 25 straight games against us. It seems to be heating up again, though, with the two big games Steve had against Utah last year (3rd quarter ejection and game winner in Stockton's greeeeel) Right now, the best rivalry is Lakers/Kings. If Donald Sterling greases the hinges on his checkbook, the Lakers/Clippers rivalry could end up being the best in a couple years. Personally, Houston/Dallas has an excellent chance of being a good rivalry. We seem to match up against Dallas well.
Rockets-Jazz Lakers-Kings Rockets-Dallas (I don't know if you'd call it a rivalry, but we both are in Texas, and play pretty evenly against each other) Raptors-Magic. TMac verse his cousin Vince. That is pretty fun to watch.
San Antonio - Dallas San Antonio still has the edge, but MAN these two teams have played some absolute CLASSIC games the past two seasons.
