What exactly do you mean when you say replying to the email and having it converted to a text? How do you do that? I'm using Voice on my BlackBerry.
uprising. i got the invite thanks. rep given! i think what he means is that if you have the texts forwarded to your e-mail, if you just reply to it as an e-mail, for instance on the blackberry just reply like you would normally, it will automatically make it a text for the person you're sending it to.
^^^ What he said. You just reply to the email and your recipient receives as if it were a text message and they are none the wiser.
I have Google Voice (signed up as GrandCentral users ages and ages ago), but never used that much, because of the whole new phone number deal. Free texting is nice, but then I also am using an old ghetto blackberry right now, so don't do a ton of apps with it. That said, I also signed up as a beta user of Ribbit Mobile, which seems to do a lot of the same kind of things, except you you can hook it up with your existing phone number. Just got access a few days back, working great so far. just thought i'd share.
sorry to bump up an old thread but does anyone have an invitation to google voice that they wanna share? i will donate money to the tipjar if someone can share an invitation with me w.briancheung AT gmail dot com
WOW thanks! didnt know I will get an invitation this fast  FYI Google just launched a web app of google voice for iphone so you can now use google voice without jailbreaking. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/neiOa38DuqI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/neiOa38DuqI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/google-voice-for-iphone-and-palm-webos.html
if anyone else had an extra invite it would really be helpful. my girlfriend is pregnant and about to take a leave from her job and doesnt really see a point in keeping her cell phone active so we could save a little money.
My only complaint so far with Google Voice is that you can't set up a different outgoing message on the google number and your own cell phone number.
It is just a app you download and it calls your google number instead of direct phone call. Pretty sleek and it has been out nothing new. If your service is free for incoming calls then it is very useful because you just give out your google number and the google number calls you. Nice alternative.
