We will have cap space, we would just have to renounce the rights to many of our expiring players, which in turn would make us alot less desirable as a destination.
Outside of pulling off a miracle sign and trade for LeBron this season, it would be impossible to get him for the money he'll be seeking. But if he's willing to come to Houston for the MLE, yay!
He doesn't but I'm sure the marketing aspect of sending his popularity in China through the roof is not lost on him. And as stated we could make the space but would take too many hits on role players.
I don't think there's any way we'd be able to get far enough under the cap to offer a max contract, regardless of who we relinquish. Correct me if I'm wrong.
LeBron's Max Contract 2010-2011 - $16,568,908 2011-2012 - $18,308,643 2012-2013 - $20,048,378 2013-2014 - $21,788,113 2014-2015 - $23,527,848 2015-5016 - $25,267,583 http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm I don't know why we couldn't but I'm not a salary cap guy in the slightest.
It's a pipe dream, but it would be sick. Would be a dynasty and I'm guaranteeing that part, since LeBron's been better than T-Mac ever was since 2005. It's a possibility, but man would Yao have to talk to LeBron a lot in order to make it happen. I don't think we can offer him a max, but I doubt we can only offer him an MLE. Tmac is done here, so....
If we renounce the rights to all of those so-called players and we will be the same team that didn't when with Yao and T-Mac. Barring divine intervention, we ain't getting LeBron.
Why would Lebron want to come? he's already bigger than yao in China among young people Besides, yao's career is pretty much done Do you think he'll come back a better player next year? you can dream He'll likely have another surgery next year and retires, sad but its just the reality. Look at what he's doing now. All that business stuff in China tells you he knows what's up and is preparing for life Houston Rockets
I think I heard somewhere that Lebron has a goal to be a Billionaire, and playing with Yao could really extend his "branding" worldwide.
Would it really make a darn what the salary situation is for the Rockets if Lebron wanted to sign with them? If the Rockets are 15 million into lux tax, you still sign him to $20+ mil, he's that transcendent.
Well lets take a look, heres what I see guaranteed from Hoopsworld: Yao: 17,686,100 Shane: 7,354,500 Trevor: 6,322,320 Andersen: 2,500,000 Brooks: 2,016,692 Taylor: 810,000 Budinger: 783,000 Total: 37,472,612 From what I understand (which is limited) we can offer his current salary + 5% which is $16,568,907. Combined with our total I calculated, that puts us at $54,041,519. Heres a snippet from ESPN about next years cap. I am almost certain Morey would postion himself to have just the right amount of money to offer one max contract. Otherwise it would of been flatout dumb to sign Andersen, since that would single handedly make the difference I believe. Its also lilkely that Cook + JT get moved at the deadline with a pick to get us under the cap, which knocks off the rest of JT's salary for next year. Furthermore if Lebron did make it known he wanted to come here and we didnt have enough cash, we would have a logjam at the 3 with Battier, Ariza and Budinger. How easy would it be to just pick up the phone and dump any of those guys. So yea Durvasa, I think if it comes down to it, we do have the flexibility to get it done.
You certainly have a point Well lets see what we would have left: Brooks/ Ariza/Budinger Lebron/Battier (nothing LOL) Yao/Andersen But I think we would still have a MLE to play with.
Sign all the ringless vets for cheap! Brooks/Rafer Ariza/Bud Lebron/Battier Camby/Andersen Yao/Z/Andersen Yay boiii
