The Mavs had a ton last night, Cavs also had something like 5 that night. Those are extreme examples... but I am wondering where the Rockets rank among teams in terms of their ability to "draw technical fouls." Anyone got the data?
The annoying pesky scrappy hard working invisible statistic. This is a team that was supposed to win 14 games according to Sir Charles. He will never succeed in being a GM is he says half the crap he says.
A lot of our players are the proverbial "he's annoying as hell being an opponent but you'll love him if he's on your team" kind of guy.
Here's ESPN total stats of techs per team (Rockets tied with NOH at 23rd with 14 techs): http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=teamstatmisc&sort=techs&league=nba&avg=none&qual=true&pos=&season=2010&seasontype=2split=0 This is FoxSports breaking it down to player/team/coach/bench techs per team (plus regular fouls and flagrant fouls): http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/sortableStatsTeam?league=NBA&table=fouls&stat=technicalFoulsTeam&dir=descending&low=&high=&=season&seasonState=regular I think you wanted which teams are the leaders in getting opposing teams technicals, haven't seen that yet. Basketball reference doesn't track that. I did look at 82games.com and saw opponents have 79 "other" fouls against the Rockets. I did a quick scan of some other teams, no one came close. http://www.82games.com/0910/0910HOU3.HTM
I think that's just a coincidence.... I wouldn't put much to the fact that the Rockets are drawing more techs, but we do play very physical which might get on opposing teams nerves
if your referring to the 82game stat, your prolly right. the Fox stats breaks it down to player and team techs per team.
Most Rockets are hard worker but not dirty players. Arize probably the only dirty player in the team. So Rockets should be one of NBA tam with fewest tech/fragrant fouls.
The Rockets play every game with near play-off intensity. That might wear on some not so mentally tough teams as the night goes on. Especially teams that are expected to compete for an NBA title. It's a bit of the entitlement mentality coupled with some superiority complex. "do you know who I am?" "go away boy, you bother me."
Pretty much this. Did you see the hissy fit Dampier threw when Aaron Brooks fouled him cleanly fouled him by holding? He seemed more upset that it was one the leagues smallest point guards that held managed keep him from getting the points and 1 more then anything else.
Just took a look. I'll go ahead and call this the "Innocent Instigator" stat. Rockets lead by a wide margin : team own opp diff HOU 6 21 +15 TOR 4 13 +9 NYK 1 10 +9 OKC 1 10 +9 IND 5 11 +6 MIA 10 15 +5 DET 5 9 +4 GSW 8 11 +3 POR 5 8 +3 NJN 2 5 +3 NOH 2 5 +3 PHI 2 5 +3 SAS 3 4 +1 CHA 11 11 0 PHX 9 9 0 MIN 5 5 0 DAL 12 11 -1 MIL 7 6 -1 MEM 6 5 -1 DEN 18 15 -3 ATL 7 4 -3 WAS 7 4 -3 SAC 4 1 -3 UTA 3 0 -3 LAC 8 2 -6 ORL 15 8 -7 CHI 10 3 -7 BOS 19 9 -10 CLE 15 5 -10 LAL 17 2 -15
Nice work. Interesting how 4 out of 5 worst teams on this stat are also among the teams with the best w/l records in the league.
I don't like the way you say this... drawing technical fouls. I don't think the Rockets do something intentionally to get other teams riled up. The Rox just play hard every game when certain teams think we are a walkover and also we exposed many overrated stars when we play hard. That's why they are pissed and have a mental breakdown end up being violent to us because THEY HAVE NO ANSWER TO THE ROX!!!
