OK sorry if this is a noob question. Is Demonoid a private or public tracker? I ask because I'm downloading a file, and noticed that the trackers listed for it range from sites like rarbg to thepiratebay. If this is the case, then you're just as likely to be caught (by the MPAA/RIAA/etc) uploading files as you would be if you just used The Pirate Bay, right? So why all the hoopla with maintaining a good ratio? I don't mind uploading a lot in order to maintain a good ratio - but only if I know the download is through a private tracker. Does this make sense or am I wrong?
Demonoid is a private tracker. MPAA/RIAA are going after distributors and putting pressure on internet providers to warn their users. If you're worried about getting in trouble, first and foremost, don't DL/UL illegal software. Second, if you do, get programs like peer blocker or peer guardian 2. They are not fool proof, but they do minimize the risk.
