This thread is the perfect counterargument to anyone who wishes to dump Yao.
It's much easier to be not cheap and treat your players well when you have money.

Why is everyone taking Burger Monsters side of the story??

Barkley the Belly probably hallucinated this money while he was overdosing on
    some Krispy Kreme's back then.

I think the year before he threw somebody thru a window and showed up at camp out of shape.

Just cause this guy burbles something doesn't mean its true. He was lucky to get 9 million...

Uh Drayton spent 108 million dollars on his baseball team...the highest it has ever been in franchise history. He isn't cheap just bad spendings.

I really think a lot of Rockets fans are just too sensitive. So what Barkely has said bad things about the Rockets he has also said good things too. Actually he has been right on a lot of the predictions he has made about the ROckets the last few years.

Chuck got screwed over and whether he holds that grudge is entirely up to him, apparently he does.

Now he has to find comfort in other things.....

The perceived bias of major media outlets by every fanbase of every sports team in America is fascinating. I wish someone would do a study of sports message boards in America. I'm almost positive that the study would find that every fanbase in America is convinced:

1.) The refs purposely cheat against them.
2.) That the media has it out for their team.

Astros are 8th highest salary out of 30 at 102 million, Rockets are 12th out of 30 at 73 million.

So in conclusion, wtf are you talking about?

the point is he didn't get 9 million.

no he wasn't lucky, his Rockets tenure led us to the Western Conference Finals and at that time, he and Dream were about even as being a dominant post player.

barkley being fat has nothing to do with him allegedly getting screwed in his final year.

Well at least it's vice versa now, certain players are screwing LES over by not being able to play a full season or in the playoffs.

we got 40 million dollars not playing hoops.

Barkley has mentioned this on-air several times before.

As much of a jerk as Charles can sometimes be, I actually sort of feel bad for the guy if this is true. Remember, he took a MAJOR paycut while with the Rockets so that they could trade for Scottie Pippen with the resulting cap room. He could have made big time money but instead agreed to play on a one-year, $1M contract, with the understanding that the franchise would make it up to him. I guess they may have promised him $12M and then re-negged on that promise a year later.

I, for one, sincerely appreciated that grand gesture from Barkley. You never see guys do that for their teams nowadays. (I bet everyone here wishes that Yao would do something like that, which could actually net the Rockets a guy like Chris Bosh or Joe Johnson, but he won't.) That is why I tend to always cut Charles a lot of slack when he says stupid things like this.

Its not Yao's choice at all what his price is, I thought this was known already....

    Its his family's & China's

By that same token, a guy like Lebron James or Dwyane Wade will get a LOT of pressure from the players' union not to take less than the max; and I imagine that each of their families would also want them to max out their possible incomes, even if just to secure the futures of their great, great grandchildren.

The same type of pressure existed back when Barkley was playing. It's just that he was the rare guy who just didn't give a crap. He wanted a championship, and doing this was the best way (in his mind) to ensure that he had the chance. To hell with the players' union. You just don't see guys like that anymore in this league.

What Chuck doesn't know is Mr. Alexander went ahead and gave it directly to the casinos. The idea was he'd save Chuck some time and effort.
