The accountability can be fuzzy but some people in the admin and the security circle will have to take the fall. You can't also dismiss the impact of the political fallout.

If Law & Order has taught us anything, it's that you don't just go out and arrest all your potential leads. In a best case scenario, this one guy could lead you to Osama bin Laden (yeah, right). At the very least, he could make contact with someone from al Qaeda and then you could follow that guy -- but you can't arrest Hasan still, because you don't want to tip them off. It's a very risky, sticky situation if you attempt it.

Of course, this is all conjecture. You'd think the CIA had a good reason for not apprehending a suspected terrorist, but you'll never know. I doubt they just sat on it, but there are just so many leads these days, it's really hard to know which to follow.

The bottom line, it ended horribly, and if they knew he was unsavory, then they could have prevented it.

Imagine if you are the boss and you told your subordinates don't bother to report to you things of triviality or things that don't seem to make a lot of sense. Maybe until the shooting, nobody imagined it could actually happen?

I think the CIA is pretty selective about what they tell anybody. Notice from the article I'm posting, that the committee in the House is pretty pissed of at them for withholding more information, even today.

I think there is enough evidence that he is most likely getting the death penalty.

Maybe they bribe him with some lap dances and hookers?

Mad Max you're a great poster, very well balanced and objective, but your take on this situation isn't consistent with your usual logical self. This guy is obviously a mentally insane deprived sick b*stard. He lived alone his entire life, he owned a bird which he fed by chewing human food, then when it died he buried it and visited it regularly (up to 3 months after).

If anything, the fact that he frequented strip clubs is as far as it gets from "fundamentalist" ideas. Do you see the women in Afghanistan? they're freaking covered from head to toe, men aren't even allowed to talk to women. They think they're getting virgins, remember? he's willing to die for this ridiculous evil cause, and yet he's so unsure about it that he had to go get his freak on at a strip club? This tells you that it wasn't religiously motivated, and all this nonsense that's out there about "ties" and testimonials about how religious he was are a load of crap. Tying him to 9/11, really? how the hell does that even make sense? it's so sad that people are actually buying into this story.

Anyone who is broadly hostile towards religious people is a bigot.

God this is confusing. These terrorists are NOT muslims, they just claim to be with their stupid, flawed ideological thoughts. It is clearly stated and widely known that killing people when you are not in a state of obvious war/battle is forbidden, drinking alcohol is forbidden, having sex with random chicks is forbidden, and going to strip clubs is forbidden. It makes no sense! Women in Islam are told to cover themselves and be modest, and men are supposed to lower their gaze towards women so they don't get tempted to commit adultery and these so-called "muslim" terrorists are out getting drunk, partying it up, and sleeping with prostitutes! Wack jobs indeed...
