Worst 5 NBA Players to have had a long career? I'm going to go with Michael Olowokandi, of contemporary players http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/o/olowomi01.html 500 career games, over 13K minutes, 10.7 career PER To top it off, in spot duty in 15 playoff games, he really kicked his sucking up into the next gear, and somehow lowered his game a few notches, putting up a 2.0 PER. I mean that's hard to do. If anybody can find a statistically worse player using PER on basketball reference with a comparable number of games, let's see him. Edit: Post your worse 5-man all time lineup. C-F-F-G-G Criteria: Have played in 300 NBA games, have at least 50 starts.
I think the person who played the most games and did not play in an NBA/ABA All-Star game is Sam Perkins (1286 games). Centers seem to hang on longer than shorter players, and Kevin Willis immediately came to mind when I read your post. He did, however, play in the 1992 All-Star game. For an example of a center holding on for a while, Danny Schayes played in 1138 career games, averaging 7.7 pts and 5.0 reb per game.
Centers will probably dominate this list, maybe we should put together a worst by position lineup. Danny Schayes btw posted a relatively respectable (for a big stiff), though still mediocre PER of 13.4 for over 1000 games, I think that qualifies him as "serviceable veteran backup" rather than "plain awful" as Kandi Man is.
...I'm sure no one can beat that. Rasho N. is about the worst I can find and he looks like a HOF player compared to the Kandi Man. I think the real question here is this - has there ever been an NBA player with a widespread nickname who was as bad a him?
C - Mikki Moore (534 games, 5.8 PPG) or Nazr Mohammed (638 games, 6.8 PPG) PF - Tony Massenburg (683 games, 6.2 PPG) SF - Chucky Brown (694 games, 5.9 PPG) SG - Jon Barry (821 games, 5.7 PPG) PG - Brevin Knight (729 games, 7.3 PPG)
It's hard to tell how bad some of these guys are. This thread should be: worst NBA player that made the most money, Kandi would be a candidate there.
All these guys fit the 300 games, 50 starts criteria (unsure about Lostocuff and Lloyd since data doesn't exist, but it appears they played substantial (starters) minutes in a few seasons.) C- Greg Kite (6.5 PER) F- Scott Lloyd (8.5 PER) F- Jim Lostocuff (8.3 PER) G- Michael Curry (7.5 PER) G- Kareem Rush (9.3 PER Honorable Mention: Adam Morrison (not enough career games, but a sterling 7.4 PER)
Word...Kevin Willis got an NBA contract at the age of 44. There is no way you can suck for that long and still be in the league.
How can you put two well-liked former Rockets on the list? And, by the way, Chucky Brown was and is an NBA champion, which I think counts for something. My list (trying to pick guys who actually got some significant PT in their careers): C - Jon Koncak PF - Alan Henderson SF - Charles Smith SG - Pete Myers PG - Chris Childs
We were focusing on PER, which sucks out intangibles like hustle, basketball IQ, desire to win, how much I like the guy, how many of the guy's jerseys I own, etc. For example, Battier's PER was 10.7 last year, but most of us would agree his contributions are way above that. Same for Chucky Brown.
