It was just shane's metaphor for running more than usual. In the end, team defense will still be our bread and butter.
Why? When Yao comes back, we can switch it up.. SUCCESSFULLY. Halfcourt while Yao is in the game, and up and down when he is not. We will be amazing. It's a blessing in disguise.
You guys need to remember that we have zero stars on this team. What is the best we can hope for? If it's between the lottery and becoming a team that plays an uptempo style that is exciting and has the potential to surprise people in the playoffs like Golden State in 2007 but never win a championship like the Suns of the past decade, then BY ALL MEANS GIVE ME THAT. It sure as hell beats losing 50 games.
Remember Brooks? How about Ariza? This Rockets team can play an up tempo game BUT the game will not be always be played in an up tempo mode. It is when the team has to be forced to play a a deliberate game that the team has to focus on. To be a contender or even a playoff team, the Rockets need to learn to mix and match this two types of playing the game.
I hope so. But we'll be dead last in blocked shots and points given up in the paint. God I miss Yao already.
we do not need steve nash. Lowry can run a gun and shoot offense, and sometimes, Ariza might bring the ball up. It really doesn't matter who is running the point, as long as they are speeding down the court as soon as they get the ball. The faster you run, the faster you create all kinds of mismatches with the other team, both on offense and defense, because you don't give them any time to regroup and run their play. The faster we run, the more likely the other team is going to run with us. You always want the other team playing your brand of ball. Walking the ball upcourt and dumping it to Yao or Tracy is not going to work this year
Reminds me of the playoffs (2nd round)...somehow I didn't feel the pain usually associated with losing.
Shane is always ready. The big weakness now is A Brooks. He supposes to be the major ball handler. He will be sg for many minutes in order to let Coach RA system works, Because AB is a ballhog and not an ideal Coach RA style player.
AB is not a pg but a ballhogger. Battier/Scola/hayes/Ariza/Anderson/KL are Coach RA style players, But don't have enough score powers.
Remember in 06, when Amare was out, the Suns tallest \ player consistently in their line up was 6'8 Diaw. Marion was the next tallest at 6'7 (was a solid rebounder though) THen it was James Jones or Tim Thomas throughout the year Raja Bell was the shooting guard at 6'5 and Steve Nash ran the point. I think Scola is much better than Diaw, I think Ariza is as good a defender as marion, but he's a very weak rebounder. Battier is a much better defender than Bell, but more limited offensively as well. Whoever our shooting guard is, whether its Tmac, Taylor, Buddinger etc. they are all much better than James Jones or Tim THomas. However, Aaron Brooks doesn't create shots for others like Steve Nash...even though he is MUCH better athlete than Nash. We don't quite have the skill to pull off the small line up, but if AB improves his passing, and Ariza bulks up a little and improves his rebounding, there could be some potential. That suns team won 55 games, so who knows, anything is possible.
Shane was getting a bit overzealous with his simile, I think. We won't be the Phoenix Suns. We'll be the Sacramento Kings circa 2001.
The suns had a guy called Kurt Thomas on that team too Diaw is not Scola, Diaw is fluid- so fluid he could play all 5 positions. Scola does not have that luxury Raja Bell is a better lock down defender that Battier, he gambled a lot but most of his gambles paid off. Remember when Raja guarded Kobe during the playoffs, remember how they got some mind games going on, on court and off court. Lol, Battier plays defense by putting a textbook hand in Kobe's face which Kobe loves, lol. Aaron Brooks is a born pure scorer, you will damage him as a player if you make him a true pg. The best you can do with Aaron is bring him off the bench for a spark and to light up the second team. Or you should trade him to a young team that needs scoring at the point position
