Is this some sort of "keep Lebron happy" deal? I can't think of any other reason for it.

How is Danny Ferry Executive of the Year again?

Complete stupidity like this explains why David Lee's agent is talking $12 million/year. When LeBron leaves next summer and the salary cap goes down to $50 million a year later, the Cavs will be paying Anderson Varajao for 4 more seasons.

Andy = Chuck Hayes + 5 inches. And he's not 5 inches more effective than Hayes, either.

Goes to show what a great deal Chuck's contract is.

    Damnit f*** this s***.

An interesting side note, a rumor is that this deal was made because Lebron wants AV. AV's contract is loaded near the end. And it was structured that way because there's talks w/ Lebron about resigning before the season starts. All rumor, but this comes from the RealCavsFans' somewhat more connected version of Clutch.

I was going to put in my post that LeBron must have had something to do with it, but there has to be some commitment from him on staying long-term for the Cavs to do this. Otherwise, the Cavs just shot themselves in the head.

How would this move make LeBron happy unless LeBron has no interest in ever playing with a player better than Anderson Varejao? They could have had him for half the money if they waited it out.

Those incentives better be "Average 20-10" or this will be the worst contract since Travis Knight.

What was the thought process involved in this?

Anderson Varejao gets a contract that could total $50 million. Second coming of Jon Koncak...

50M over 6 years with 10.5% increases... It's pretty much the MLE, only slightly over.

Well said. Danny Ferry still hasn't learned that Varejao isn't that good? No wonder him and Steve Kerr can't built good teams.

Didn’t they have negotiation problems with him last offseason and he still sucks. The Cavs have blinders.

This is the best news I have heard all off-season because now we don't have to worry about him playing for the Rockets.
