Imagine if Pac was the one who had all those pretty little Puffy beats and Puffy hooks and Ma$e assists and Biggie was some dude rapping out in the West Coast over some shoddy production. We wouldn't even be here debating this.
The reason was because he was from New York. Lets not forget they called their arena the WORLD MOST FAMOUS ARENA when they haven't won since 73
Could either of them help us out at the Centre or Power Forward position? I heard Wallace is just a Dorsey clone... and I would say Shakur is no good to us as he's undersized...no more undersized PF's !!
pac is the best ever, he had the lyrics, the soul of hip hop. biggie although was a great lyrist though...
Yeah, I posted somewhere in this thread about that very thing. Biggie's death came right around the time that Bad Boy Records was on their comeuppance. You had Life After Death, No Way Out, and Harlem World all drop that same year. Then you had him being touted as the greatest ever by the most popular rappers and rap label at the time and of course people followed like sheep.
I was at a mall and saw a vendor selling Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Tupac and Biggie photos. I guess it doesnt matter what you think...they are still well liked. I actually liked their music beats but when they start rapping and start to "keep it real"....silence is golden. Found some lyrics homies..... Tupac I played the cards I was given, thank God I'm still livin Pack my nine til it's time to go to prison As I'm bailin down the block that I come from, still gotta pack a gun Case some young mother****ers wanna play dumb I guess I live life forever jugglin But I'll be hustlin til the early mornin cause I'm strugglin Like drinkin liquor make the money come quicker Gettin pages from my b**** it's time to dick her I ain't in love with her, I just wanna be the one to hit her Drop off and let the next ***** get her That's the way it goes, it's time to shake a hoe, make the dough Break a hoe when it's time to make some mo' I keep my finger on the trigger of my Glock Ridin down the block lickin shots at the punk-ass *cops* And spittin game through my mobile phone The type of **** to get them hoes to bone My Definition of a Thug ***** Biggie Some say the x, make the sex Spec-tacular, make me lick you from yo neck To yo back, then ya, shiverin, tongue deliverin Chills up that spine, that ass is mine Skip the wine and the candlelight, no Cristal tonight If its alright with you, we ****in (that's alright) Deja vu, the blunts sparked, finger ****in in the park Pissy off Bacardi Dark Remember when I used to play between yo legs You begged for me to stop because you know where it would head Straight to yo mother's bed At the Mariott, we be lucky if we find a spot Next to yo sister, damn I really missed the way she used to rub my back, when I hit that Way she used to giggle when yo ass would wiggle Now I know you used to sweets at the Parker Meridian Trips to the Carribean, but tonight, no ends Peace outside dawgs....

I remember it was such a huge deal in our neighborhood when 4Tay got a Grammy nomination for "Best New Artist" cuz of that song "I'll be around". I don't even think he raps anymore. He still works full-time as a special education assistant at a middle school here... he's been there for 10+ years now.
I didn't mean he sucks as a person. He's a nice guy. I just never thought he was a good rapper. We are from the same neighborhood in SF, and there were a lot of better rappers in the neighborhood at that time who didn't get the chance he got. I knew him and still see him around, but I wouldn't say we are close. I was very good friends with his wife growing up... she is a teacher now, at the same school where he works.
2Pac was a better writer for sure. But we are talking about kids in their 20's. Good songwriters don't peak until well into their thirties and forties. It has strong nostalgia value for kids who grew up with it, but truth is most of this stuff is shallow, uninspired, contrived and riddled with cliche, designed to be consumed by the masses. And it was. None of them could touch Saul Williams today. Or Chali 2na or Rakaa Iriscience for that matter.
