After watching the lottery and seeing the Clips win the lotto, I had to ask myself, which is more valuable? a deep playoff run and the experience it gives to our players (especially the 2nd year guys) or a very high draft pick, possibly #1?

A draft pick would imply you are not very good so I would rather be in the playoffs.

are you seriously asking this question???? come on what would you rather have??? A ring or to be rewarded with the worst record and have to constantly have a Number 1 pick. Mind me you wont always be rewarded the number 1 pick.

I guess you misunderstood my question. This question pertains strictly to the Rockets of this year. Would the Rockets benefit more from it's playoff run or a high draft pick?

uhh with the #1 your goal is to go deep in the playoffs so if you are already deep in the playoffs then you are doing good.

    Playoff run.

Winning tends to become a habit the more you do it. So does losing and being in the lottery...

I agree that the experience of a playoff run is more important. But would you guys trade this year's playoff run for Blake Griffin or Ricky Rubio or Thabeet?

Nobody brings up the other fact that MOST top Rookies barely reach the Hype they're projected with. You have to pay the rookie a High salary without knowing whether they are a Jackpot or a bust.

Also having high draft picks doesn't guarantee success... look at the Clippers, Grizzlies, Warriors, Timberwolves and a few other teams. Constantly have lottery picks, yet have nothing to show for it

I'd take a top 3 pick over Rockets' second round exit.

Are you confusing yourself with the NFL? NBA rookies don't get paid a high salary really.

I'm fairly surprised of the poll results. Even though I agree that experience is invaluable, I thought more people would think having an impact rookie would be a greater value for next year's Rockets than the experience of the playoff run. I actually thought that this poll would be more evenly split.

Not every high draft pick pans out, in fact most rarely do not. For every high first rounder that lasts, there are about 10 others that fail.

isn't the purpose of drafting high - having a great playoff run? so there.

dump question. if you can do great playoff run, it's REALLY hard to get a high lottery pick (playing fake basketball?)
and what a high pick can get you? hopefully a great playoff run?

you can't be serious. to have that kind of "impact rookie", rockets need to lose all the games right after All-star games. Image how much fans that will bring to rockets and fans.
