Think of a trade that you'd like to see happen around the league, and preferably without the Rockets' involvement. My choice: Minnesota trades SF\SG Wally Szczerbiak and their 2nd round pick to the Clippers for SF\SG Corey Maggette, #8, and #12. How do the TWolves benefit: A chance to infuse their team with some talent, athleticism, and overall depth. Can you imagine if they draft Tskitishvili @ #8 and, say, Frank Williams or Dickau @ #12? Nice. Maggette is unproven, but talented. How do the Clipps benefit: One of the main reasons why the Clipps didn't make the playoffs was the lack of a consistent 2nd scorer. Yeah, players like Olowokandi and Maggette had their moments, and Richardson gave them solid scoring off the bench, but for the most part their offense relied far too much on Brand. What a better compliment to Brand than the sweet-shooting F from Miami (OH)?
The Clips get raped in that deal. They can easily get that scorer with one or both of those draft picks, and Wally isn't that much of an improvement over Maggette, especially in terms of team chemistry. Don't forget that Odom is still there. I'd like to see Orlando trade Mike Miller and two future #1s (maybe incl. this year's 18) to Denver for McDyess. He will probably leave anyway, and Miller gives them one badly needed rebuilding piece.
Not bad, mfclark. Cleveland trades Andre Miller to the Clippers for #8, #12, and a future first round pick. The Clippers get their PG, and he's a local guy, too. The Cavs don't have to worry about paying Miller, and get a chance to add 2 young, talented players. Plus, should they get their wish and win the LeBron James sweepstakes next year, James could be walking into a nice situation. Why am I so infatuated with the Clippers' picks?
That's not a bad deal for either team, seeing as how Cleveland really needs to rebuild, but I'd think LA would be more willing to part with Maggette or Odom instead of the picks to grab Miller - otherwise, they'd have even more problems to deal with in terms of max salaries. Another: New York trades Charlie Ward to Golden State for Adonal Foyle. Yet another: New Orleans trades Elden Campbell to Orlando for Mike Miller, Jud Buechler, and two future firsts. Last one: Boston Celtics trade Kenny Anderson to Detroit for Chucky Atkins.
Now I've stated that makes all the sense in the world. Either for him or Davis, but they probably could keep oneof those picks, the #8 and send Odom there.
A deal that can happen perhaps but I'd rather not want to see happen because it would improve both teams so much is Odom for Szcerbiack. The key is we need to take ODOM before anybody does.
