As you should! I literally live about 3 minutes away from it in Round Rock. Fantastic place. In fact, you can drive by there any time of day, or even like 4 am, and there is always a line of 4 to 10 cars in the drive through. Regardless, great donuts and other breakfast items. I can't wait to take a dieting break and hit that place up again. Oh, and I second something like "Homeslice" on Congress. Not too far from campus, great pizza, and reasonable prices. Nice college date place. Very representative of Austin, in general.
Yes another vote for La Traviata. I had their cioppino soup last week and it was really good. Definitely a good place to take a date.
there's a vietnamese joint on lamar just north 183... you'd have to go to houston to find a better bahn mi
Tam Deli. That place rocks. Much better than Lilly's Sandwich, near Lamar and Kramar in the Chinatown shopping center.
wow, yes... 616 might be the best place for a date. why does everyone like homeslice so much? it just dosent come close to salvation pizza. granted salvation pizza take a long time... but they have their reasons. everything is crazy fresh
I forgot even though it's really close to my house, but TacoDeli has ridiculously good tacos. I'm hungry thinking about it.
the mojo fish taco and the cowboy taco are fantastic... some of the other ones are hit or miss, but the spicy green salsa is top notch. and rounders may be my favorite pizza spot, but i think homeslice is pretty damn good too. never had salvation, but it's not far from the sisters place so i'll hit it up next time im in town.
I would agree with you, except the last 3 or 4 times I've been there, it's been incredibly disappointing. And every time, I'd think, oh they're just having an off night... However, it's becoming a trend, and I've given up on it.
Speaking of good restaurants that are hit or miss is the Casino El Camino. The first time I went there my burger was as good or better than all of the great things that I had heard about their burgers. Since then, I've been there twice and had bad experiences. The last was the worst and I probably won't be back even though I work one block away. First of all the guys that work in the kitchen are rude anyway, but they told me that it would be at least 45 minutes for my burger. After about that much time they start calling out an order for Adam (my name is John). Adam never came for his food, so after the rest of my group got their food and I hadn't got mine I thought maybe Adam is my order. So I ask them if maybe they mistakenly thought that my name was Adam and that Adam's order was mine instead. They asked if I was Adam and I told them no, my name is John. Then they were like, "tell Adam that his order is ready." I wait another 15 minutes and finally ask if my order was ready and they ask what I ordered. I told them and they're like "yeah, you're Adam" Of course they were jerks about it and my burger was dry from sitting out for 30 minutes. I guess this turned into a rant, sorry.
Dog and Duck has English pub food, but also burgers, et al. Most importantly...beer. Not a big fan of the food at Scholtz Garten though. Both are fairly close to campus.
