One of this decade's best movies. A masterpiece. Great surround sound. A truly immersing experience. W should have watched this movie before committing our lads to a another bad decision. Ah, the poor fellas left behind hoofing it to the safe zone...ugh, I digress. Anyway, welcome to the party!
Taken (76%) - I thought this was extremely good during the action sequences, but otherwise kind of boring. I wish they didn't need 25 to 30 minutes just to show us that some guy loves his daughter more than anything. The storyline doesn't necessarily lend itself to a sequel, but I'd like to see Neeson in a similar role.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- 9/10 I really enjoyed this movie, although it took me 4 sittings to finish it since it was quite long.
Let The Right One In awesome movie. a dark fairytale like pan's labyrinth, but i enjoyed this even more. also, i'm not one to let cinematography and setting really make or break my thoughts on a movie, but boy did they do an amazing job of creating the perfectly eerie atmosphere for this film. great story, great performances by a bunch of foreign child actors, especially the female lead. it was recommended to me that i know as little as possible about the movie before viewing it, and i'd recommend the same. side note, there's a one second-long scene that will unfortunately scar me for life, and is unforgettable in all the wrong ways. i really wish it wasn't included in the movie. those of you who have seen it know what i'm talking about, those of you who haven't...i wish they would put a way to omit that scene on the dvd release for you. let's just say, some foreign markets are apparently waaaay more liberal with what's allowed to be shown on film than they are in this country, and this makes me reconsider if that's even a good thing. 9/10 also watched the documentary "Dear Zachary". really screwed up, sad story. was good, but what bothered me was the director/narrator was a friend of the subject of the documentary, and the whole thing had the feel to me of him using that as a springboard to his own fame, which didn't sit well with me. for a documentary subject matter that serious, and knowing that it's one of his best friends who is making it, i could do without all his clever direction and cuts and edits. gave it an air of disingenuity. the documentarian's agenda aside, i give this an 8/10.
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle - 3 out of 10 Road Trip - 4 out of 10 He's Just Not That Into You - 1.5 out of 10 Tropic Thunder - 8 out of 10 Slumdog Millionaire - 9.5 out of 10
The first time seeing the flick, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, being a big fan of Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, and Madeleine Stowe. It tripped me out, but I was disappointed, and I'm a huge SF fan. A few years later, I saw it again and loved it. Now it's one of the films I'll watch late at night, when I notice it's on cable. As for Brad Pitt, I thought his acting in this was incredible. Perhaps you didn't care for it because it was so totally different from Pitt's usual roles. In a bizarre way, Pitt in 12 Monkeys brings to mind his role in Burn After Reading. Not at all what you'd expect Brad Pitt to do.
I just thought Pitt was so over the top with it, that it didn't feel like I was watching a character. It felt like I was consciously watching Brad Pitt try to be a character, if that makes any sense. I think when an actor is really hitting on all cylinders, he/she makes you forget that they're acting.
That's how I felt the first time I saw it, so I understand. After seeing it again, I "got" that he was just being the character and that it was essential to the story. Hey, can't agree on everything!
Max Payne (unrated version) 3/10 no idea how this movie was made some decent action scenes but for the most part it was pretty lame imo. not even a Mila Kunis could save this crap fest. The "twist" if you could call it that was pretty obvious.
Outsourced - 3.5 outta 5 stars. Cute little movie, a bunch of no name actors with great music and an amusing story. As an aside, I too would like to do monkey pulling the turnip with Ayesha Dharker.
Coraline in 3D - 9 out of 10 - It's stop-motion animation and it looked absolutely gorgeous in 3D. If you have a little kid in your life I'd recommend taking them to watch this one. There are still a couple places in the Houston area playing it in 3D. <a href="http://www.google.com/movies?hl=en&near=houston&dq=Coraline+3D+in+Houston&sort=1&mid=324eafe24601f079&ei=P5WuSZnoGpC-nQfn3tS8Bg&sa=X&oi=showtimes&ct=movie-link&cd=1">link</a> <a class="snap_shots" href="http://img604.imageshack.us/content.php?page=blogpost&files=img185/6329/c00986rbi3.jpg" title="QuickPost"></a> <a class="snap_shots" href="http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=c02455rbe0.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8892/c02455rbe0.th.jpg" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" border="0"></a> <a class="snap_shots" href="http://img604.imageshack.us/content.php?page=blogpost&files=img297/8892/c02455rbe0.jpg" title="QuickPost"> </a><a class="snap_shots" href="http://img164.imageshack.us/my.php?image=c02764rgo2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/8216/c02764rgo2.th.jpg" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" border="0"></a>
Berry Gordon's - The Last Dragon Cult hit from 1985. Nominated for a Golden Globe. "Bruce" Leroy Green's search for the glow has to be one of the best bad movies from the 80's. Not for serious viewing, but a great blast from the past. There is a remake in the works with Samuel L. Jackson. Vanity, Taimak, William H. Macy as a make-up artist and DeBarge's "Rythym Of The Night" make the movie but it is all stolen by Julius Carry the self-proclaimed Shogun of Harlem, Sho Nuff. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lnsg0jDbHk4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lnsg0jDbHk4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The last two movies I've seen were Notorious and The Wrestler. Both of them were really good. Notorious engrossed me more than I thought it would. It did a great job of rendering Biggie's life in a bio-pic. The main flaws had to be the guy who played "Puffy" didn't look anything like the real man, and there was an excessive amount of nudity and adult language. Other than that, I really liked it. The Wrestler had an artistic quality to it and the scenes were gritty. It gave a "human element" behind the scenes of a former famous wrestler and a man who lost everything. The acting was phenomenal. I recommend it to everyone.
Legend of Chun Li, The - 0.5/10 poor acting poor casting poor story no signature moves And to think the DragonBall movie will be even worse... I am disgusted.
I'm starting the Watchmen comic episodes. Seems okay but I didn't realize it was basically the movie at least it starts out as the previews from the movie.
Just saw the Wrestler a couple of days ago; really liked it. Rourke looked like he was in pretty decent shape, and it was interesting to take in all the behind the scenes stuff with pro wrestling. The backyard wrestling/barbed-wire/staple gun stuff was gut-wrenching, but I assume this has been part of the business for the last ten years or so. Interesting to see Judah Friedlander without his whole get-up. And all the ladies looked nice: Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood (who I think Mickey's with now) and the crazy fireman chick.
