Or school choice and the separation of school and state. Arguing over government indoctrination is kind of funny.
More than the few days usually allotted, fail fail. Trying to brush everything under the rug with a few generalities tossed in is no way to teach sexual education.
The fact that it involves all of us because we're talking public health and the costs associated, plus the reality that a lot of parents aren't going to give their kids good info, if any at all.
You might be able to, but lots of other parents either won't or will not provide anything beyond the stupid abstinence message conflated with the screwed up religious beliefs of the far far right. And you don't want to make it an elective because even kids who wouldn't take the elective have hormones and are part of the larger society.
Because I'm a Jesus Freak, I will have this talk with my kids earlier rather than later...probably long before the schools broach the subject. Because I have 2 sons and no daughters, I'm stuck with both talks But I'm totally cool with that.
Sex Education of all types has been shown to have no effect whatsoever on pregnancy rates or STD rates. If we ever applied outcome-based thought processes to it, we would just quit funding it. Parents, talk to your kids.
'cause you know i'll be telling them to hit it and quit it left and right??? i'm thinking your respectable daughters would be pretty safe with my sons....aside from the jesus freak stuff, of course!
This is America. They have that right. You do not have the right to take money from everyone to use for control methods in the manner in which you please.
Such as abstinence-only education, ie exactly what the state of Texas has been doing since the mid-90's? Seriously, if you're gonna post, read the thread.
That's an awfully strong statement to make. According to the American Psychological Association, http://www.apa.org/releases/sexeducation.html And yes, talking to your kids is a good idea too.
