    2007 NBA Playoffs

    We had Rafer Alston
    We had T-Mac.
    We had a healthy Yao.
We didn't have Ron Artest (who you claim is overrated so it wouldn't matter if we had him or not anyway).

Why couldn't we advance past the first round then? Because we didn't have all the key players we do now? Key players who are playing better without T-Mac? Who are 7-1 without Rafer Alston?

Despite the sloppy turnovers, the Rockets were playing with a tenacity that I haven't seen in quite a long time last night against the Mavs. It was an exciting game. Did you not watch it?

I think we will be fine. With or without Tracy we have a very solid team that can beat any team on a given night.

lol everything you asked who would fill the void from mcgrady, the answers to those is aaron brooks, and as for yao, i agree, i hate how non-athletic he is, but the guy can get on fire in a heartbeat, and it's hard to stop him, but in my opinion, i'd say get rid of ron artest this offseason, bomb the next season, then let yao go, let t-mac go (if he is still injury-prone) and start fresh with a lottery draft pick and signing a few stars in the offseason signings. ;)

Yao is NOT a defensive liability. I know the guy is not a great shot blocker for his size, but the guy changes several shots a game. You ask any player on the Rockets and they will tell you that it is huge having a guy that size guarding their back. Next time you watch a Rockets game count how many times an opposing player puts a little more arc on his shot, rushes his shot, takes a little bit different angle, etc. because of Yao.

    Your reasoning is a liability!

Other than Duncan, Dwight, Shaq and Yao there are no other dominant post players in the league anymore. There is a reason why Duncan and Dwight's teams are tops teams in their conferences and why Shaq has multiple rings. The Pistons won because Sheed was a pretty decent low post option a few years back. So in the last 2 decades, all the champions have had a great low post player except for the Bulls and we all know how the Bulls won without one. If we did not have Yao or another post player, there is no way we can have a chance to win it all. Our offense is predictble but come playoff time any team is predictable. That is why you need a low post option because it is unstoppable.

One other thing about Yao being a defensive liability: he really isn't. He has trouble against smaller 4's that have a midrange game, like Al Jefferson and Boozer. As for pick and rolls, I either must be older than most people here, or some people here were so used to Hakeem roaming around like a guard, that people forget that's how 99.9% of centers are. They are awful to mediocre against a pick and roll. Anyone that knows basketball knows bigs do not like to get out of their comfort area i.e. the paint and guard a pg/sg.

The difference between now and back then is that back then, for smaller 4s matched up against a bigger 5 like Yao, there was no soft double/triple team as there is now with the new defensive rules, so the bigger guys could absolutely punish the smaller 4s to the point where it was a huge disadvantage for the team with the 4 guarding the 5. Now, with the defensive rules, Yao can't exploit it was much and he looks that much worse as a result since he can't get back at the guy that just scored on him.

Overall, if Yao was such a defensive liability, Rockets would not be consistently in the upper echelon of teams in terms of defense. Yao would never be a defensive POY, but he's no liability.

No, for last a few seasons, why we can not make second round? Our offense, and Tmac is a big problem because he( yao too) can not answer the score.

Now, AB can shot, Lowry can cut and run (much better to finish arround the rim than RA). At least our team will not give up even when we behind. This will make something happen.

Mark my words, if all is health, we will be top 4 at west and have a good chance to make the second round this year. WITHOT TMAC.

    You must be kidding.
If Yao Ming were an American, he would get better calls from the referees.
His only problem is the unfair treatment from these racist referees.
