I'm thinking so. Because, if you think about it, the Rockets were definitely lacking in the defense department against point guards with size. We were also lacking in the versatile power forwards. We would not just pick up another point guard 6'0'' (if that) and another 6'9'' player (we all know we have enough of those) without there being a purpose for it. I am thinking that this move was not one that makes sense individually. I'm thinking that the Rockets submitted a deal with several other players for a pretty nice guard.
Why is K Lowry better? Well, if your a numbers guy like Morey, let's look at Hollinger's PER rating system. According to the stats, even in limited minutes: Ranked 24th out of all Point Guards Kyle Lowry, MEM 49 21.9 .412 .801 .540 29.7 13.2 18.3 1.4 11.5 6.3 14.40 Ranked 38th out of all Point Guards Rafer Alston, HOU 48 33.1 .370 .789 .484 28.2 9.6 18.9 1.9 8.5 5.3 12.88 And to compare... Ranked 35th out of all Point Guards Aaron Brooks, HOU 52 22.7 .402 .883 .520 18.9 10.2 21.7 2.1 8.2 5.2 12.98 Although this is just one view, it still shows that given his minutes, he's more productive. So, let's see what happens.
I just don't see Morey making this deal without a plan ahead. Does Cook actually appear to be a moneyball guy to you? He has barely cracked anyones lineup the last few years. Not even sure how he signed a contract for 3.5 mil. Scola/Landry can shoot his numbers +++ - it just seems like an expensive and redundant move to not have another lined up. Maybe it is for next year. ?????
One player will play as much as Chuck Hayes, the other as much as Dike. We will NOT see these players play. Thats the thing.. a starter, for more salary adn two young guys that don't have all that much potential and won't play.
That's one of the MOST IMPORTANT points that need to be stressed. Watch out Rockets fans, if we make the playoffs, you would wish we still had Rafer. Who's going to fill in for AB when his shot is off because it affects his whole play ?? Rafer was good on defense, especially in the clutch where he made some crucial steals, and now that Tracy is out he was finally going to shine !!! F this trade, it was stricly a cost cutting move so F U Leslie !!!
Hmm... I donĀ“t know what to think about this. Lowry is actually even the worse 3pt shooter. At least he is a finisher. I really thought we could`ve gotten more for Alston. He was really good in the last games, and really is only downside was his inconsisten shooting. Alright, that was a big downside, but I don`t see that big of an upside in Lowry...
I'm sure if guys on here watch college basketball then they know what to expect of him. right now I'm loving this trade.
