This trade is good for Francis

I doubt Rockets talked to Francis about it.

Or maybe they did... and that is why I haven't seen him on the road trip. And possibly after that conversation... Francis didn't show up for practices and workouts.

Seriously... I have never heard Francis missing practices/workouts this season except for Clutch's article.

Probably a buy out for him. The fact that we gave up a 2nd rounder and cash makes the Barry/McDyse scenario unlikely with Francis and the Rockets.

Must suck to get traded from your "home" team on Christmas Eve. Whats wrong? They couldn't wait until the 26th? lol

You are probably right about the relationship and the Sura comparison is a very good point. I was just leaving it open as a possibility. But I don't see how this can bite the Rockets later. Did you mean that SF fans in Houston will turn on the Rockets for treating him this way?

Steve did go on the roadtrip. He wasn't in uniform though... he was in a suit behind the bench.

At the end of the day, if Francis gets his freedom, he still gets the best for his career.

He needs to go somewhere fresh where he can get the opportunity to play.

Matt Bullard said that the surgery Francis had was one of the hardest ones to get back in shape from.

I bet you... if he knew we would have traded him for financial reason and not waited on him to get into game shape... he would have retired. He had hope that he'd contribute and win a championship with us.

Whatever... our owner is cheap. Nothing we can do about it. If we had Mark Cuban (he may be a douche... ) I'm sure Mark would have kept Francis and signed Mutombo as well.

No team in the league has offered a contract to Deke yet.

DD, c'mon, do you really think it's about the opportunity to play? In Houston, yes. But I doubt SF wants to play anywhere else, especially the Grizzlies. And it's obvious the Grizzlies have no use for him.

He's done and "free" to officially start his post-NBA life.

Maybe he resumes his career in China. I'm sure he's got plenty of fans there.

The move gives Francis another shot to prove he can still play. It wasn't going to happen here, for whatever reason. So I agree its a good move for him, if he wants another contract.

    Probably pretty good.

Did you see the entire deal.

If I understand correctly, the Rockets paid the rest of Francis contract, and gave up a 2nd round pick THIS upcomming year (early in the 2nd round) for a conditional pick in 2011.

This was a pure Lux Tax dump.....the Grizz got the best by a long shot even if they release him.

That'd be around $1.74M. Waiving Francis will cost the Grizzlies $0 he's been pre-paid by Houston.
