[Poll] Do you think the end of the world is near?

Im not sure, but it makes yet another good reason
for me to "Just say no" to having children.

Couldnt think of anything more horrible than raising a child to live in
this terrible world, which by the time they would be a young adult will likely be expotentially more dangerous and dastardly than it is even now!!

 

i'm guessing someone has said this very thing in nearly every generation.

 

The most horrible thing you can think of is raising a child in today's world? Really?

one of the keys to world takeover/dominance by certain groups is the sterilization of lower class citizens, the most effective means of population control besides war/famine.

 

I've just skimmed this thread again and while I find the idea of the Rapture and Heaven or Hell interesting I don't buy it. I believe that Heaven and Hell are states of mind and if we all changed our states of mind we could have Heaven here without requiring a Rapture where we are all somehow taken physically away.

 

I noticed DD had asked a question about how other religions besides Christianity view the end of the World. Off the top of my head I believe there are some sects of Islam that also have an apocalyptic view of the World and something like the Rapture. For Hinduism there is the concept of cycles of the world where there is an apocalypse at the end of each cycle. Technically this isn't the end of the World as the World starts up again in the next cycle. Some Buddhist sects have adopted that view but generally Buddhism doesn't deal with end times and is more concerned about the hear and now. Buddhism believes in the idea of constant change so in that regard the World is ending and begining constantly.

I will stress that I am not an expert on any of this and all of this is off the top of my head.

The Mayans and the Ancient Egyptians...cool people, but no. The answer is still no.

As I study for finals, I refuse to believe all this will go to waste.
