Author Michael Crichton Has 'Died Unexpectedly' Author Michael Crichton Has 'Died Unexpectedly' Prolific novelist and "ER" creator Michael Crichton has passed away. He was 66. Perhaps best known for being the author of Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World, which were turned into a hugely successful movie franchise, his numerous books have sold over 150 million copies worldwide. In what his family calls an unexpected death, it was revealed that he was waging a private battle against cancer. "While the world knew him as a great storyteller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so -- his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," his family tells ET. "He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget."
I've read quite a few of his books. CNN.com says cancer. I had not heard anything about it before. RIP, thank you for entertaining me with your stories.
thats a shame he was a pretty good author i read a good amount of his books back when i was in high school. Jurassic Park was always a good read, i mean its not a literary masterpiece but it was very entertaining.
Wow. Unexpected as hell I liked reading his books. Prey and Sphere were pretty damn good. RIP Michael.
Definitely. Sphere the book = awesome. Sphere the movie = utter dog ****. Man, I remember reading Jurassic Park when I was in 4th grade. What a shame.
I was mad that JP made it to a movie also. In the book it kept saying that movies are always showing dinosaurs as slow and it was impossible to show the actual speed. After watching JP again, I agree.
At the same time, JP the movie was much different from the book. I separated the two and enjoyed both. The movie was one of the handful of movies that revolutionized the industry during their time. A classic.
