I think Yao is pretty much done. His injuries and his in-ability to develop the proper mindset to make it in the NBA are too much to overcome. I look for the Rockets to start limiting his minutes over the next few seasons and he'll be out of the league within 5 years.

country or club, which is bigger? i dont think there's any inappropriateness in Yao's words, he's a chinese first, then he's a rocketman. And think about it, you can chase nba champ every year in you career, but for Olympics, especially Beijing Olympics, how many are you gonna got in your entire lifetime? If you are not Yao Ming, you never know how honorable he'll feel to representing his own country. It's about how many times you can feel this kind of honor in you life, not about how important a champ is.

jkidd just gave his gold medal away to some casino mogul  . sure he has one already, but to give it away this easily lol. i doubt hakeem would give away one of his championship rings that easily lol.

Kidd promised Elaine Wynn, wife of casino mogul Steve Wynn, that he would give her his newest Olympic medal if the Americans fulfill the redeem dream.

"It's not a (gambling) marker or anything like that," Kidd told The Arizona Republic. "She's just a great friend and a really great person."

They met last year when Kidd and the USA team stayed at the Wynn while training in Las Vegas.

"Last summer, we stayed at the Wynn for (what seemed like) a lifetime, close to three weeks," Kidd said. "We met at a banquet, we got to talking, and she really understands the game.

"I told her I'd make a deal with her, that if we won the gold medal, I'd give it to her. She thought I was kidding. But I told her I had one already, and the way they treated us at the Wynn, it was the least I could do."

Well, this Chinese report sounds pretty bad if it's true.

VERY quick rough translation of key parts:

YAO MING HAS HAD 13 MAJOR INJURIES; SURGERY NEXT YEAR ON HIS TORN SHOULDER TENDON

    . . .

Yao said: "Next year [summer] I'm afraid I will have to do something about my shoulder injury; it's been dragging on for two years now, since the end of the 06 World Championship. At that time the doctor gave the opinion that if I were a baseball player, which requires great shoulder strength, I would need surgery, but I wouldn't be able to play for half a year. So I have dragged it out to now. But I'm afraid next year I'll have to have it treated."

    . . .

About the seriousness of this injury, Yao explained: "I can feel it. You can hear something inside. A tendon snapped. Not snapped, but tore. It's an acute injury. I remember in 06 an abrupt movement was what caused the injury."

Sina conducted a live chat with Yao yesterday. It was one of the questions asked during that chat.

You can find more photos here

They will conduct another live chat with Battier tomorrow 11:30am Beijing Time.

OTOH, sohu.com interviewed Scola yesterday too. I will start another thread for this.

If this new injury nis true , this is bull**** , Why drag this get it treated right away.
It's not like Yao is an iron man who never suffers injuries , we should be extra careful with him.

And why the hell didn't he get the surgery the same time he got surgery for one of his many other injuries????

    I don't understand.

This is not a new injury, he has had it for awhile. He can play through it so he has. If he had surgery then it would put him out for months. He didnt do the surgery when he had his toe infection cuz he wanted to come back during the season. Same for his fractured knee cuz he wanted to play for the playoffs that year. He didnt do it with this recent surgery cuz he wanted to play in the olympics.

Next summer he plans of fixing it. Hopefully it isnt till late June sometime following a deep playoff run.

what kind of logic is that?

both sides of the spectrum are a little extreme. Yao needs to learn a balance, but he's got more pressure on him than most NBA or International players. the interview was from a perspective of looking back on the Beijing Games and where to go from there, as a country and as an individual.

    Respect the Yao

    Wait what?

Who is trying to claim that U.S athletes don't love America? In fact, quotes of American players praising the importance of an Olympic gold are constantly brought up in this thread.

If you don't bother..no wait, if you are incapable of following a thread, I suggest you refrain from participating in it.

Oh and please, stop with the "MY" stuff. First it's not YOUR country, it's OURS. 2nd, you're not a speaker at a rally, noone is here to cheer at these pretentious remarks, it only seems foolish here.
