Rockets and Chinese national team center Yao Ming continued his whirlwind Olympic experience on Wednesday by carrying the Olympic Flame through the main gate of the Forbidden City.

"It is hard for me to separate everything that is happening right now," Yao said. "To carry the flame is an honor among many that I have had at previous Olympics and at this one. But it is the kind of experience that I will appreciate most many years from now when I am older and can look back."

Yao said he never expected to be the one to light the Olympic cauldron at the Opening Ceremonies.

"I believe it is an honor that will probably go to one of our older Olympians or athletes," he said. "Someone who was a pioneer."

I am glad for him, he must feel proud. As would I if I was given the chance to do it for my country.

Seeing that picture made me happy for Yao, and really proud to be a fan of his team. Sometimes I take for granted that we're witnessing the career of a truly one-of-a-kind athlete and person.

I'll admit, I was kinda hoping he'd be the one to light the cauldron. Still very cool, though.

That is a sad and disturbing picture, Yao flanked by the greatest mass murderer in human history. It reminds me of the German athletes saluting Hitler in Munich.

I don't blame Yao, but that picture is not cool and the Olympics should never have been given to China.

i was told that yao is bringing the torch into the stadium and the one who will actually light the torch is one of the children who survived the recent tragic earthquake. yao will pass the torch/flame to him/her to light the final torch.

I am proud of Yao and happy for yao for being given such an amazing honor
