The dvr is set and ready to record Sunday's premiere. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mS9_wtekt8c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mS9_wtekt8c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Going to have to find alternative avenues of viewing, *cough cough*, bob's your uncle. That's cool that they are using a BRMC song for the promo.
I highly recommend the book 'Generation Kill', by Evan Wright who this series is based on. I never knew they planned on making it a movie. I also recommend 'One Bullet Away' by Nathanial Fick. The books are both great, as they are based on the same story. 'Generation Kill is written by an embed reporter from Rolling Stone and 'One Bullet Away' is written by one of the commanding officers of the platoon that Wright was with. Its really interested how the writing and the viewpoints differ from both writers. I'm not a huge book reader, but both of these books really entertained me.
When i saw the heading i instantly wished it was a series based on the book. It's a shame i probably wont be seeing it anytime soon over here. The book was a good read - but than again i'm more than a little interested in these types of books - more than most. If anyone else is interested; i'll take a leaf out of wesnesked's book and recommend 'House to House'... Some compelling stuff in there. Both books are good reads.
I'm looking forward to watching this series. I hope it will be another great one from HBO. Promos and trailers look great so far.
So is there any sort of heavy slant one way or the other or does the author/maker of the book/film dish it out as honest as possible.
Anyone watch? I wasn't impressed. Seemed a lot like the movie Jarheads and broke no new ground. I'll probably still watch the remaining 6 parts, so hopefully it'll get better.
Definitely reminded me of the movie Jarheads, but I like that movie, so I liked the first episode. Will keep watching.
i saw the making of it, I wanted to watch, anyway, apparently some of those actors were real marines in iraq
it does not seem to be slanted. the soldiers are pro-war but i guess that is to be expected in the military pre-Iraq.
Second episode was better than the first. They're now getting into combat situations. I'm hooked on this show.
Lots of cursing.Don't know the accuracy of it, but the main theme is a bunch of immature soldiers going to the the war. It seems this is a prototype of movies about this war. The 2nd world war you got heroics, Vietnam war is discussion of morale of the war, and this war Jar Head, the death valley of aliyah is about much of kid soldiers fxxked up badly. Just my observation.
