when i rank my top 5, i look at a combination of a players past achievements and current production, and this leads me to:

    1. Lebron James
    2. Tim Duncan
    3. Kobe Bryant
    4. Steve Nash (although this year's playoffs were really bad for him, but I'll give a 2 time MVP the benefit of the doubt and attribute this more to the chaos with management/personnel than with nash slipping)
    5. Kevin Garnett

chris paul will get there soon, but at least let the guy finish the season. i don't understand why you would put a player in the top 5 if he doesn't even complete 1 full dominant season. a lot of players can get hot, but then teams change how they approach them. chris paul is hot right now, but let's see how he reacts when teams figure him out and focus their entire defense on slowing him down. i doubt that he will decline, but i'll at least wait and see for the results. he's only played 7 career playoff games, i respect the top 5 too much to drop their rankings for a guy who doesn't have nearly enough experience.

    are you guys dumb...d-wade..melo...ROFL
There are only 3 guys in the NBA that have proven they can carry a team to the playoffs every year, the scrubbiest players Kobe, Lebron (eastern conference), and Tracy ....any body that doesn't include tracy in the top 10 is a r****d

    Lebron
    Chris Paul
    Duncan
    Garnett
    Dwight Howard
    Yao
    McGrady
    D. Williams
    Dirk

Honorable Mentions Nash, Amare, and Ginobli

Amare is easily the best scoring PF in the game and I think the best offenseive front court player in the league but he puts no effort in defensively.

Nash went from best PG in the game to third in one year. He's still a great player, and I don't think age has caught up to him really. I think the PG position has just gotten better is all. It's arguable if he's even better than Parker at this point who torched him this year.

Ginobli has to be the only bench player in the game that I could even consider as a top 10 player in the league. He's an assassin in crunch time, and he's just a very sneaky player that can go off for over 30 points while letting Duncan and Parker rest. I think if more was asked out of him though, his numbers would probably drop off some. Him along with Parker and Duncan can evenly share the load as the goto guys at various moments in the game then shuffle them all in together to close out a win.
