http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2008/03/hittin_on_the_dock_of_the_bay.html There's nothing better than watching a star player hoist his teammates up on his shoulders and carry them home. There's nothing more inspiring than seeing an athlete who knows what it takes to win and knows what it means to compete hard every night. There's nothing more meaningful than seeing a guy take a game into his own hands and wring a victory from its throat after a pair of dismal, uninspiring losses. Way to go, Carl Landry. After seven games on the shelf with a bum right knee, Landry cracked the Warriors' foundation, broke their windows and crashed in their roof more than 6.5 reading on the Richter Scale. The rookie was a one-man earthquake on a night when the Rockets desperately needed somebody to shake them up after back-to-back belly flops against the Celtics and Hornets. When Landry last played a game - March 6 at Dallas - he shot 6-for-9 and finished with 17 points. So, after nursing an injured right knee for two weeks on the sidelines, here's Landry returning to shoot 6-for-9 and finishing with 17 points at Golden State. This time he also pulled down 8 rebounds and did everything to keep the Rockets from what would have been a late, late collapse. For 15 days since suffering the knee injury against the Mavericks, Landry has been chomping at the bit to get back in there and do his stuff. For at least the past week when the burden of the 22-game win streak had them pushing their limits and running on fumes, Landry's energy, his strength, his zeal for simply playing the game had the Rockets hungry for his return. This is what the Rockets had been missing for the past two games. Somebody to go into the paint and wrestle away rebounds like they were the last oxygen mask in a smoke-filled room. Somebody to cut harder than the executioner's ax, then catch passes and slam them home to silence the road crowd. Somebody who never gets tired. Or never admits it. Fact is, the Rockets haven't had a rookie this cool and with this much impact since Sam Cassell was doing his Fresh Prince of Clutch City routine back in 1994. Landry may have been a second round draft pick, but he's one of the first guys you want watching your back when things get difficult. He works, he toils, he fights, he battles every minute that he's on the floor. He's more than just a hustle guy. He's someone you can count on late. He scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter and he calmly stepped to the line and sank 3 of 4 free throws in the final 2:47 of the game. His teammates needed a spark and he gave them a roaring conflagration. They needed a lift and he gave them a rocket boost straight out of NASA's playbook. They needed somebody they can count on for the same level of passion every night. Carl Landry, as usual, delivered. lol, blindberry must REALLY dislike tracy mcgrady.
carl landry def. helped us tonight (as he would the past few games). but landry is getting all these open spaces b/c of tmac's presence. tmac started the game for us great when the warriors were rolling and he carried us. he carried us after he came back and made 2 critical shots in the 4th to stop a huge run by the warriors. he helped out on the boards tonight when adelman put him at PF. he got 8 dimes. tmac def. carried us tonight. landry was tremendous off the bench simply b/c we saw less hayes.
Fran likes to consider himself the voice of the fan. If a lot of fans are cheering about sumpin or venting/whining about sumpin, or feel nostalgic or sad about sumpin, he likes to think he the man to put it into words for us. Probably is, he's a tired and lazy writer. I mean, who really thinks Fran can hold a candle to Jason at the Houston Press right now. seriously.
Where's the dis. This the best we have looked since Landry left. Is this a coincidence, you think. It's not a dis on Tmac, it's a praise for Landry
i like tmac, but even i admitted tmac sucked the past few nights. even i admitted the reason our offense is not as good is b/c we simply miss landry (for the simple fact that hayes is seeing too many minutes). but when you consider landry the star of the team and calling him carrying us when he played 19 minutes???? bobby jackson, battier played just as good of a supporting roles tonight as landry. i just feel that's a diss in how he started his article. it's fine to diss a guy when tmac played bad (which he did), but then to compound it after he put up 26, 8, 8? at least be fair in what he writes.
Landry is a good finisher, but he is not a playmaker. He needs a person like Tmac to create plays for him. In fact, when Tmac was on the bench in the 4th quarter, Rafer even could not pass the ball to him and resulted in a couple of TOs.
Did Tmac steal your gf or something? Actually judging by your name, Shawn Kemp probably did back in the day, which isn't surprising to say the least.
see the bolded part. he started his article writing features of what a star should do for his team. he then mentions carl landry.
hahahah, true that! A classy man indeed. I am just waiting for the "where are they now" story on him, showing how he pissed his 150 million dollars away on child support.
