Landry's workout for the Bucks, Morey did more than pull a rabbit out of a hat. They had him going at 56 in the second round. Great scouting and talent recognition by the Rockets staff. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDYUgL5szGY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDYUgL5szGY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Actually he was saying "At 56 he would definitely be on our list" because that is where the Bucks were picking... for all we know they knew he'd go higher. Since Milwaukee only had the 6th and 56th picks, Landry obviously was just trying to break into a draft spot also.
No doubt Yi straight up. As much as Landry's a winner I still think Yi's upside is huge if someone can tap his potential. He's hit a rookie confidence wall and stock is at all time low... make this happen Morey!
I wouldn't be surprised is Landry, Novak, and 1st netted Yi. I suppose it comes down to selling game tickets as opposed to Chinese interest. Surely China is more fruitful. I would stick with Landry. But Yi is a weapon waiting to be utilized.
I wouldn't mind trading Yi for our 2 up and comers... however that could potentially cause a civil war in here between the Yao and Yi fans...
Let's not get carried away here with the Landry/Yi comparisons. 1. Yi is a MUCH, MUCH bigger cash cow than Landry... even for the Bucks. 2. Yi is 19(I'm assuming this is correct), and Landry is what, 24? Yi has much more potential. The Bucks will only trade away Yi in a package for a superstar.
No way does that package net Yi. Landry is a really good young player and may prove to be great. He and Scola are my two favorite Rockets, but Landry doesn't have near the potential as Yi.
Yi is looking like a bust so far. He plays soft and gets his dunks blocked left and right. It looks like it will take him years to adjust to the NBA if he ever does.
Right now, I'm pretty sure Landry is going to be at least a solid pro for us down the road. Yi is a question mark
I would be surprised. Yi also helps the Bucks on the business side. What Yao and China has done for the Rockets, Yi will do for the Bucks. Don't get me wrong, I would pull the trigger on that trade.
Right now Yi doesn't look anywhere near as good as Landry. Since Landry added 4.5 inches to his vertical leap, he's a force of nature. Yi is a 7 footer and perhaps can develop into a Dirk type of player but I wouldn't pull the trigger on this trade. I always go with the bird in the hand approach. You don't know exactly what you get with Yi. I will say that it's unfortunate that Yi is stuck on a horrible team in a bad system. I think that Yi would flourish better with a the Lakers, Houston or Spurs. The Nets and Toronto would even be good systems for him to play in.
cmon man are you crazy? Mandry is already a solid player and could start for teams in the league. and as good as he is his upside is untapped. yi is a big question mark, he has a long way to go before he's a solid contributor every single night like Mandry and he'll NEVER be as explosive or valuable to the team as a sparkplug like Mandry is right now. do anyone think yi will EVER be tearing basketballs from dude's hands or skying over people to steal rebounds even if the heavens parted and yi developed in to a rudy gay level scorer, this team doesn't need another soft scorer they need hustle and someone who can play off yao and tmac. not saying this kid yi sucks because i haven't had a gun to my head or been bored enough to watch 30 bucks games and have the definitive word on where and what has gone wrong for yi this year. but he's not a good fit for the team like landry and scola who are tailor made for this team and offense
You should ask our GM if they will trade Landry for Yi in a heartbeat. It would be a too good to be true trade for Rockets. As talent as Landry is, he is a second round pick. Look around the league, see how many second round picks are superstar. Landry is more like David Lee type player. He is very good off bench. I am not sure how he will perform if you ask him to create his own chance to score. You almost do not see him put the ball on the ground and drive. Yi can do it. The difference now is that Yi has played way more games than he played in Chinese league and can not finish it strong. Yi is going to be a superstar but Landry will be a good complementary player.
Carlos Boozer and Michael Redd are two examples that I can think of off the top of my head of second-round all-stars. Right now I would make Landry untouchable until we see how he does with starter's minutes. His is a stock I would not be willing to sell early on. And seriously the NBA has no vested interest in concentrating its Chinese assets. What are Chinese fans going to do, run over into the other room and turn that TV on too? If they're already watching Rox games for Yao they won't double their viewership if we double the number of Chinese players on our team. Let him stay in Milwaukee and generate some cash for the rust belt.
