Since ratings have been low lately, and me and my friends have been arguing whether NASCAR is a sport or not, I was wondering what you guys thought. I can't stand it. Find it really boring and I can't understand why people watch cars go around a track on TV.
I'm a pretty open minded person when it comes to sports........although I'm not a fan of hockey I actually do think it can be entertaining...the same goes for golf and tennis.....................watching cars go around a track over and over again just doesn't seem that fun to me.........I think most NASCAR fans that go to the races are just rich people who go more, because of the whole "experience" and not, because of the actual excitement of the race.......................
Only Nascar would have its biggest event - the super bowl of the season on what is basically opening day. Why not change it up and start the season at Daytona with a 400 mile race and end the season at Daytona with the 500 miler? As for the race it's pretty boring until the end IMO - last year was really exciting the last few laps as I recall.
I think so many folx are just waiting on the Crashes Which can be pretty spectacular and dangerous I don't watch . . Rocket River
Boring, and not a sport, IMO. To me, a "sport" needs to involve more physical activity than shifting gears and pressing your right leg down on the gas pedal. Now that would be an interesting poll: is NASCAR a sport, yes or no?
I have to stick up for the race fans here! I wouldn't put NASCAR in the same category as the "stick & ball" sports. I'm a sucker for fast cars. I'll watch NHRA, NASCAR, SCCA just about anything with a motor. I do like going to see a race! But like all "sports" IMO, going to see them is ALWAYS better that tv.
I wouldn't say it isn't a sport. It's a pretty level playing field where skill comes into play in a big way. That said, it is one of those sports (or whatever) that is certainly boring to watch on TV. But I urge anyone who hasn't seen one of these races to go to one live, even if you aren't a fan. I'm not a racing fan at all, but I went to a race a few years ago, and It was probably the second best sports experience I've ever been a part of.
i watch while im doing other stuff... like chillin on PC, chores etc... i'll watch it over Football any day of the week.
I've watched the Grand Prix when it was in Houston years ago. That was a pretty awesome experience. Got free tickets to the suite where the rich oil people were. Maybe that's why...
I can't understand why every race is so long. Why not have some short 200 mile races on the big tracks that would last a reasonable amount of time? F1 is awesome not only because of superior cars and skill, but the races are over in about an hour and a half. 500 miles -- what are they taking a road trip -- do they pack luggage?
Booooooring. I'd turn off the tv before watching this thing. I know how to make it more interesting. Put those old people who go 50 in the fast lane on the interstate on the track. Add in some a-holes going 100 in their Hummers just to tailgate me and then cut me off even though there's no one around. And make sure they're all using their cell phones to communicate w/ their pit crew, none those fancy-shmancy in-the-helmet receivers. That crap gets me excited for all the wrong reasons.
