So after forced out of the previous game with Utah Jazz with the upper respiratory infection, Yao Ming returned to the training court today even though he was given the permission to rest by the Houston Rockets.

He was still with the flu/the infection, and originally wanted to take rest, but after some struggling, he forced himself to climb out of his bed and went back to Toyota Centre to join the team practice. He said: "Rest is never sufficient. Rest more and people will tend to become lazy !!"

He completed all the drills in the team practice, and he also joined the team scrimmage. He was penalized to run those baseline sprints after his team (paired with Chuck Hayes and Luis Scola) lost the free throw competition.

When asked whether he could return to play at the game with the Golden States Warriors, he said he hopes he will be prepared to play by then.

Ironically, both Tracy McGrady and Bonzi Wells were hit by flu also and had skipped today's team practice.

I hope Scola's shooting 1000 FTs, going 6-12 is unacceptable

I'm not sure what is worse. Having the flu or being paired with Scola and "Clunk" Hayes on a free-throw shooting team :D

Well i hope the whole team shoots 1000 FT as Scola´s lazy 6-12 was above the rest of the team.

    Scola 6-12

    Rest 3-7

Oh man, Hayes' practising layups! That's exactly what he needs. Jump higher so you have a closer reach and better angle for kissing off the board.

Well, Yao Ming got penalized numerous times for those to-and-fro baseline sprints because of the other 2.

As a matter of fact I read earlier from one of the blogs of a Chinese Houston based sports reporter from sohu.

Back in the JVG era, at the end of team practice, each player needed to make 7 out of 7 free throws before they were allowed to leave the team practice.

Now after Rick Adelman took over, insteads the players were divided into groups/pairs. They will compete on the most number of free throws made. The teams with the lesser number of free throws made will have 2 options. They can pick a player to shoot a 3 pointer. If the player made it, then the team would be exempted of the penalty for having to take those taxing to-and-fro sprints.

So those teams paired with players like Steve Novak or Tracy McGrady or Shane Battier or even Rafer Alston rarely need to run those sprints, as most of the time, they got bailed out with these players making the 3-pointers.

But this could be one of the main reasons why the Rockets players now sucks in their free throws, when compared to the JVG era.

if you have the flu, stay home and don't bring the flu to others

so TMac and Bonzi did the right thing by skipping practice.

what I don't get is, don't Rockets team doctors give mandatory flu shots to EVERYBODY?????

is it me or are those "building blocks for a championship caliber team" telling the rockets to go ahead and take "1 contested 2 point J"

People really, REALLY need to stop using the word "ironically" as if it's interchangeable with the word "coincidentally".

Well, since it's "How we play" as opposed to "How we are SUPPOSED to play," that sounds about right with Tmac on the floor.

If he's still ill, Yao should take a rest instead of laboring. If he's feeling good, then there's nothing special to talk about.

Screw Tracy McGrady, we already know Bonzi is Bonzi and he is consistent in being Bonzi. Tracy is a like a hollywood woman, he has many different identities and inconsistent attitudes.
