Barkley: Camby Should Be Starting All-Star Center Over Yao

Because 19 pts later Sir Charles had to kiss Kenny Smith's Ass.

 

The whole TNT studio is just a circus. Simple as that.

 

actually, that's just another example of barkley being wrong b/c denver's D is actually rated highly at #6 in efficiency right now (and it was top 3 for a while). of course, the rockets are now #2 (who says we don't still play D?) and yao is no doubt a big reason for that so his D is good as well. obviously yao deserves to start b/c he's a dominant offensive player while camby does essentially nothing, but camby is pretty damn legit on the boards and defense.

 

Barkley is just a joke. I don't think we are supposed to take him seriously.

 

I think, head-to-head, Camby has a pretty tough time handling Yao. Camby is too damn skinny and Yao often just bangs him out of the way. He is quick, but doesn't use it very well as far as the ball denial tactics effective against Yao.

Also, having to bang Yao takes him away from what he does best-- weakside shot-blocking.

This season, Rockets are 1-1 against the Nuggest. The win was a blowout, the loss was double overtime without McGrady. Camby's performances are not all that impressive in these games, either.

Ernie maybe, but Magic didn't agree. He just didn't say anything. But if you looked at the players they chosed as reserves, Magic and Kenny did not include Camby.

If Shaq was in the West and he had the same exact stat numbers as Yao, Barkley wouldn't have given Camby a thought.

 

If I recall correctly, didn't Charles pick the Nuggets to win the freaking West this year?? If he did, this is just him trying to spew out more of his Denver love (why he likes them this much is beyond me.....if they play NOH, SAS, PHX, DAL, or HOU in the first round, they're freaking toast). Nothing that ****** says is worth taking at face value...he's only in there for ratings. And ever since Magic said we need to seperate T-Mac and Yao, I've lost all respect for him. He single-handedly made the GARM a warzone for a solid month.

 

Yeah, you are right. Magic was mum about the whole thing. I'd like to hear Nuggets4's thoughts on Barkley's comments and also on what Melo had to say during his interview as well.

Camby is an All-Star no doubt about that. But even Charles should know better (because he's been voted a starter before)--that the starters is just based on popularity and not necessarily who's performing better than whom at the point.

As far as what Melo might have said, well Camby should seem like the best center in the league to him since Camby has to literally cover Anthony's and the rest of the team's matador-like defense. If you switch Yao and Camby, the Nuggets would be a cellar dweller not because Camby is better than Yao but because Camby's strong suit is defense and defending 4 players at one time.

If you watch the highlights in the last Sonics game in nba.com, you can see Yao was just pushing around with opposing big men like an idiot and it seems that he's the likes of Ben Wallace or Camby who could barely score. His 26-12-6 performance was totally ignored.
