Yea, I'm a little late on this but Massive Attack are brilliant. Mezzanine is their best album, IMO although Blue Lines and Protection both have their moments. Never really cared for 100th Window but it isn't terrible just not as good as their first 3 albums. Tricky's Maxinquaye is just as good and Portishead, Morcheeba, and Hooverphonic are also great trip-hop artists as well as D.J. Shadow (Endtroducing is unbelievable).

Also, I wouldn't really recommend the Cocteau Twins if you like Massive Attack and other trip-hop groups. Yes, Liz Fraser sings on a couple of songs on Mezzanine but her group (the Cocteau Twins) are more of a dream pop group similar to My Bloody Valentine and The Sundays. If you buy some Cocteau stuff, expecting to hear what was on Mezzanine, you are going to be disappointed (however, don't let that stop you from buying their stuff as they are a great band in their own right).

If you really like this stuff, also take a look at Front Line Assembly/Delerium - 2 projects headed up by Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber. It is dance music with a trance like groove to it. Delerium is the more commercial group and is usually compared to Enigma. FLA is the darker side.

    Massive Attack is good stuff.

As a side-note, I wonder how many people clicked on this thread thinking there was some terrorist attack going on or something.

No joke but for a time they had to go by "Massive" because of 9-11, IIRC.

EDIT - just looked it up on wikipedia and it was actually because of the first gulf war and not because of 9-11.

To get a quick ear history of their releases try Hooverphonic- Singles 1996-2006.

The Magnificent Tree is also a very good album.

I don't really know much about Hooverphonic except for their first 2 albums, "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular" and "Blue Wonder Power Milk". The second album ("Blue Wonder Power Milk") was the debut of singer, Geike Arnaert (they are a Belgian band). There are several songs off both of these albums that have been used in TV shows and commercials. I used to have both albums but I hadn't listened to them in a long time and I think I got rid of them when I moved.:(

But these 2 albums are still very good, especially if you like trip-hop.

I discovered Massive Attack when I heard one of their songs in the movie The Matrix. When Neo was asleep at his computer with his headphones on, the song being played was Dissolved Girl. But it wasn't on the soundtrack. After hunting around I discovered Massive Attack. After I heard Teardrop I was hooked.

I was just going to say, EVERYONE has heard Massive Attack, and everyone has liked it - they just don't know it. Massive Attack is on so many movie soundtracks and shows, it's simply awesome.

You and I have completely opposite opinions on the Sneaker Pimps then.

Not to say their first album wasn't good, but Chris Corner doing vocals >>>> Kelli Dayton doing vocals.

Bloodsport is their best IMO. Every track is solid.

I do love some spiiiiiin spiiiiin suuuuuuuuuuuuuugar though.
