The only perimeter shooter LA really had was Byron Scott. And maybe Kurt Rambis.

exactly...magic wasn't much of an outside shooter...they moved the ball really well (about as well as any team in my lifetime).

Both, Boston and LA were easily the 2 best teams in the NBA, as far as ball movement was concerned. No coincedence that they were both the top teams in their eras.

that's right...really the only championship team you could compare the rockets to favorably (at least in my lifetime) is the pistons...they had a 3 guard set that was lethal...key differences:

    1. yes, they were a perimeter team...but THEY were good shooters!! the rockets are not, they just put up shots like they think they are.

    2. the rockets are soft defensively...i can't think of a team less soft than the bad boy pistons!!!

coop was more of a defensive presence than anything else...he was more known for his work on that end of the floor.

He was also a 3pt specialist at a time when few players ever attempted any 3's.

Cooper shot a lot of 3s, but only shot around 30% or so.

I don't count him as a legit 3 pt shooter.

cooper was the only guy really committed to defense on those teams, it seemed!! though kareem played good defense by virtue of his size alone!

Those old Laker teams used too trap the **** out of teams. If I remember right, they went on a 42-9 run on Philly using the trap in 82. Billy Cunningham was screaming illegal defense all night, but they got their heads handed to them that night and most of that series. The 3pt line came in i think in 82 or 84. Cris Ford the ex coach hit the first ever in the nba. I wish they would move it back or get rid of it, then i bet you that so many avg shooters wouldn't be shooting it and it would put a premium on the mid range game.
