I don't think that Dwight is a top class center yet. I got to see him up close yesterday. The majority of his points were from dunks,he hit one 10 foot jumper. He was unable to make hookshots. He couldn't stop Dampier from scoring on him but Howard didn't have problems scoring one on one most of the times. Help defense and double teaming slowed him down.

In 12 years when he's 34, probably not. It's a loooooooong time before Howard has to worry about slowing down.
dwight is better in rebounding, shot blocking and going hard to the basket. these are the main parts of a center i think. yao is a better shooter and a better passer, which is a nice addition for a center, but not his main focus. so overall i think dwight is a little better and he will develop more and more in a very short time. so i'd say dwight is number 1 and yao number 2. i am also excited about greg oden, when he's ready to play. Didn't people say similar thing on the prospect of Stoudemire? He is nowhere nearly as explosive as he was a couple of years back. Those who rely heavily on athleticism for their productions in NBA are only one or two major injuries away from being a bust. By the time they realize they should have developed more skills earlier in their careers while young and injury-free, it would most likely be too late. Examples are plenty.
