Yao Ming's War Cry Prior to the Back-To-Back

Read the following article on Titan Sports from Wang Meng.

Let's hope his team mates will respond to Yao Ming's war cry and step up to the challenge, give their all and their best and fight like men in this stretch that the Rockets has to fight without Tracy McGrady.

Reporter Wang Meng reports from Houston

It was deep into the heat of the night in Houston. While driving his big car back home, Yao Ming was sort of sober and reorganizing his thoughts. Highway 10, the highway that he used to drive home, was already closed; he could but just circled and used another road and spent more than 10 minutes for his drive. During that extra 10 minutes home, he thought about the Rockets’ next opponent, San Antonio Spurs, and then the Phoenix Suns that immediately followed. Grinding his teeth, Yao Ming ruthlessly said to himself: “There is no way back now. I just have to give my best, give my all and fight to the end !!” 老子拼了，豁出去了。

They’ve lost to the LA Lakers, and Yao Ming encountered the first consecutive defeat in the new season. But this was not the worst yet; Yao Ming and the Rockets could now merely rest for one day, before going onto the road to face a daunting and crazy back-to-back; first they will have to go to San Antonio to “enjoy” playing away against the current NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs on their home court, before returning to Toyota Centre to play against the run-and-gun duo of the Phoenix Suns, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire. Moreover, Yao Ming will have to play without Tracy McGrady this time round, which implies, 29 points, 5.5 assists and 5.6 rebounds automatically deducted from the Rockets.

When he saw the painful expression on Tracy McGrady’s face when he staggered off court, Yao Ming already knew that it would be his turn to shoulder this team on his own; and right after the game, when he learnt that Tracy McGrady would probably have to sit out and miss competition for at least 1 week, he clearly felt the load on his shoulders.

A reporter asked Yao Ming: “Do you feel the pressure?” Yao Ming squeezed out a smile, and then stared at that reporter with an extra-terrestrial look, and replied: "Of course ! It is natural I’m feeling the pressure.” He knew that he will have to be encountering much more crazy and tight double-teaming in defense, while at the same time, he needs to lead a gelling Rockets in a more flowing offense. He said: “If I don’t feel the pressure, then I’m just abnormal and without heart and passion. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I’ll just go on court to fight and give my all and my best.”

Luckily it was not the first time that Tracy McGrady was injured, and it will not be the first time Yao Ming is put into this plight (of having to play without TMAC and to shoulder the team on his own). Yao Ming said: “It is very unfortunate such thing happened again. But we went through such experience before. Moreover, the current Rockets team is already dissimilar than prior teams; we are now much stronger and with more experience. I thought (it is not that hopeless and) we still have a chance.”

Yao Ming saw hope for his team from the way they competed with the LA Lakers in the second half (of that loss to the LA Lakers). He knew even though he would be the undisputable leader of this team on the court in the following week, if they need to win, he will require and depend upon Bonzi Wells, Mike James, Shane Battier and all his team mates to step up and compete to their best capabilities. “If we can play like what we did (in that second half of the game with the LA Lakers), if we can persist with that kind of intensity in defense, I don’t think we will have problems. As long as we are willing and playing to the best of our capabilities, we shall have a chance.”

On the minute that he left Toyota center, Yao Ming was already preparing (mentally) for the back-to-back. He said: “I don’t care what others will say, and I don’t care how the Rockets had performed in the past during those stretch with major injuries and sicknesses. No one can predict about future.”

So 2 tough battles awaiting upfront; And one wounded solider down; it will be a huge challenge but also a unique opportunity that will test the true mettle and leadership of Yao Ming. With the champion San Antonio Spurs and those never-stop-running cavaliers of the Phoenix Suns top in his mind, Yao Ming howled: “Let’s fight to our last ounce of courage and strength 拼了 !!”

I'm sorry, but I just can't see Yao Ming "howling" this phrase. Or any other phrase for that matter.

Yao should just relax and go out to give his best effort and enjoy the game. Whatever the outcome, it's fine. Dont make yourself feel too heavy and always think u have to carry a lot of pressure.

He should feel heavy because he knows nothing from nothing leads to nothing. You are not going any where if you don't load some respnsibility as a leader and compete till you can't stand up. They played with fire tonight and they will continue tomorrow and beat both the suns and mavericks.

He played hard, teh pints and stats don't show what kind of desire and determination that he had down the stretch. He knows and they know (opposition) they can't stop him,They fronted him the whole game with 2 seven footers, they had 3 and 4 defenders on him many posessions, they were guarding him like he was wilt chamberlin. Then when he got the ball down the stretch single coverage he went to work. There was nothing tim duncan could do to stop yao. They lucky they don't play the old school illegal defense rules.

If he got to touch the ball, and if they weren't buying Oberto's flops, he might have been good.

For some reason we have completely forgotten how to beat the front, and Yao was hacked repeatedly with no calls.

Yao played hard, Thow the stats out the freakin window,He played hard and when the team needed big buckets he made them we just needed mcgrady to help him finish the game.

two words,

fronting defense = end of Yao's dominance.

6 points in 3 quarters = Yao either not playing or he can't get the ball.

Either way, he's not as good as last year.

JVG figured out a way to deal with this crap. It helps if McGrady is in the lineup obviously but teams stopped fronting Yao because the team was well equipped to deal with it.

I blame RA for not adequately preparing his players especially against this obvious tactic that most certainly will be applied tomorrow as well.

Yeah, Yao is not as good as last year... physically he seems fine but I think Adelman has taken him out of his comfort zone.
