We know there are teams in the NBA who has never won a championship, but do you think Dallas could be one of them? At least they've come close, but so has Utah in the past.

I hope not..it's great watching Nowitzsky throwing his temper tantrum and pushing that bicycle into the wall after that last loss lol.

Never. They'll win when Houston gets an NHL team.

Before the Dallas-GS series, i believed that Dallas would someday win a championship with Dirk because i assumed that Dallas learned a lot from the DAL-MIA series.....apparently NOT:
    1) their franchise player is a jump shooting PF (which takes away Dallas' interior offense)
    2) their centers cant play offense and play little defense
    3) the supporting cast is mentally weak (except stackhouse)
    4) their bench is NOT deep (contradict to what u guys believed)
    5) their roster remains the same even though they did not win anything

Dirk can be a co-star in a championship team (like Drexler) but i dont think he can be the lone star in Dallas

The pieces are almost there. They're a Kobe and good coach away from winning a title. Avery is very overrated as a coach who has an All-Star team. Dirk and TMac are on the same boat. They'd have to play 2nd fiddle to have a chance at winning it all. Cuban should have traded for Shaq or Kobe, and went after Phil Jackson or Larry Brown when he had the chance.

I think its going to be really hard for them to swallow after they blew 2 golden opportunities two years in a row. Moral must be an all time low. I think they will do great again in the regular season but become mediocre in the playoffs. Dirk's biggest weakest is facing clutch time.

this is a dumb question on a Rox board... ;)

...but really, as long as Dirk is leading that team, they'll never make the playoffs. He didnt show anything special in the Miami Finals series. And he showed who he was again in the Warriors series.

They need a real center besides Erica Dampier and Diop.

I know everybody here hates Dirk, but the player I REALLY hate on the Mavs is Erick Shampier. Ever since his idiotic "2nd best center in the NBA" comment, I've wanted him to contract a painful venereal disease...

u can't say never... who knows.. 23 years from now they'll draft Yao Jr. and Cuban will be out of money and forced to sell the team. THEN they might win one.

As long as Dallas chooses to use dirk to be their "go to" guy, they will never be a champion. and eventhough they have a talented team, i don't see another player on their team who can be clutch in pressure situations.

How do you think the Mavs would do if they had Bonzi, who could give them points in the paint and grab rebounds from the "2-guard"? That way Dirk can keep being their 7ft shooting guard? :p

The Mavs is built to win 60 games in the regular season. The Rockets is built to win the championship.

I thought Dirk did quite well in game 5 to hit all those clutch 3's to come from behind and forced the series to a game 6. I think Jirk and Steakhouse is pretty decent. Steakhouse being a dirty player and all. But the rest is mediocre.

I don't see Dallas getting the championship as long as Jason Terry keeps going to his right. He's like a reverse Nascar.
