Keeping an eye on the European front:

With the fate of an entire nation on his shoulders, the young Lior Eliyahu rolled off a screen to nail a shot that secured a 92- 87 victory against Macedonia. In dramatic fashion, Israel was able to earn its stand by ticket to the Eurobasquet tournament, that will begin maƱana, september 3.

Israel has been deployed to 'group A' a.k.a: "the group of death". Considering that the group includes Greece, runner up in last years world championship games, the Soviet Union, one of the favorites to win this tournament, and last but not least, Serbia, the task at hand will not be an easy one.
Some would say that the probability of advancing is minimal, but the courage of Lior begs to differ. His averages, of 12.7pts and 5 rebounds a game, boosted the morale of Israel throughout the preliminaries. From all of the euro newspapers that I've read and Highlights that I've seen, Elior is the real deal. The journey begins......

    04.09.2007 vs RUS 18:00 hours
    05.09.2007 vs SRB 18:00 hours

Since "JacK" can have his own thread, Lior deserves another one too.
Please support our future foward of our Houston Rockets. :)

There is only one real question about Lior:

Will he be bringing his own personal Vegas stadium announcer to Eurobasket?

Too bad he won't get a chance with the Rockets this year. From what I had read and heard about him, he seems like a player. Maybe he can force the Rockets to make some tough decisions next off season.

But I am anxious to see how this group of Rockets shapes up.

Rosas, the scouting Director, said he is ready to play in the league now. Compared his game to the likes of Nocioni. But he is an optimist like most of us, nothing wrong with that. :)

it looks like V-span is going to suit up for the greek team:mad:

There is a good explanation for those stats. In the 10 minutes he did play, his defense was outstanding :) the game was 31 to 31 going into the half, that's all you can ask for. I know it might look bad on paper, but you really have to look in between the stats.

Ehh, about v-span, at least he dedicated the victory to the people of Peloponissos, whose villages have been burned down by forrest fires. Lets hope for a better outcome against the USSR. Don't be so judgemental after one game. At least you guys are watching some Eurobasquet, which is quality. ;)

tambien hay que recordar que cuando Elior se enfrento encontra de scola....Elior le encajo 25 puntos ( en dos veces) http://www.elmundo.es/elmundodeporte/2007/02/15/baloncesto/1171574424.html :)

led by their AK-47,the Russians prevailed 90-56.
It's obvious what is going on here, Coach Zvi Van gundy is only playing the most experienced players. Said Strategy has back fired and now they have to fall back. So far, Ak-47 and Dirk have played tremendously in the tournie.

the major games you can watch here, it's in spanish but Basquetbol is basquetbol.

World it has happened! Israel pulled of the upset against Serbia, 87-83. This team would not go down without a fight and now they find themselves making a surge into the next round  In a game where every point was crucial, lior's 4 points, in the first half, played into the victory. The leading scorers in the game were green, with 26, and herprin with 20.
    Btw,
Darko did not execute any refs like he promised.

Now, this is the V-Spam we all know and love.......

    vs . Serbia 2/9, 10 pts, 3 ast, 4 TO, 5 stl, 36 mins

    vs . Russia 3/9, 12 pts, 1 ast, 1 TO, 1 stl, 27 mins

    vs . Spain 3/11, 8 pts, 2 ast, 2 TO, 1 stl, 26 mins

Dude is shooting 60% from the Free Throw line. Not good at all for a guard. I knew the 6/8 game was a fluke :D ! Lior ain't doing much better but then again, he is not T-Mac is Israel. Although, he is shooting better than V-Span in this tourney.

when given the time, Elior has been known to come through and tonight he was given the time. He kept the game close and his range of accuracy from the field was right on target.
