NEW YORK — New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick, calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting.

Marbury spoke Monday about the federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against Vick while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y.

"I think it's tough," Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."

On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He also faces possible prosecution in Virginia.

"I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down," Marbury said. "I think he's one of the superb athletes, and he's a good human being. I just think that he fell into a bad situation."

So what does he think about hanging, drowning, and ELECTROCUTING the dogs that lost?

    Is that also a "sport"?

    I wonder what Carrottop thinks?

Has Pee Wee Herman chimed in yet?

Hey, I seriously would like to know what Pee Wee Herman thinks on this situation. It's worthy of a thread.

Considering that he risked his life to save the animals from the pet store fire, I don't think he would approve. I don't think Speck would dig it either.

You know, I think burglery is a sport too. It's just, you know, done behind closed doors. And taking meth is a sport too. Again, behind closed doors. And some guys are good enough that they do both sports, behind closed doors.

Now marbury really is a victim of the media. They go up to him knowing he will say something absurd. The guy doesn't know any better, he really thought coach was complimenting him when he gave him the nick "starbury".

I think it's horrible and should definitely be punished...

...but you can't argue that there aren't similarities between this type of action and what is considered "okay" with how we get our meat from cows, pigs, and other animals.

God.. i read all these posts.. nothing in agreeance..

and he's right.. people shoot deer, kill cows to eat.. come the F on man.

hell, dick cheney shot a man?? why isn't he in jail?

survival of the fittest. if you can't dig this post, you ain't strong enough for the truth. go back to your religious institutions.

While I don't agree with your whole post - I agree with this. I don't want to get in too deep politically - but Vick is treating dogs like...dogs. It's horrible, shocking, disgusting, and worthy of punishment.

But it needs to be put into perspective. You know it's gone to far when it's a bigger topic than things out there that are much worse.

Marbury, Joe Horn, McNabb, why can't these guys be smart and keep their mouthes shut? Marbury had FINALLY cleaned up his image of being selfish and had people supporting him and then comes out and says something stupid like that. These guys are idiots plain and simple.
