We have... ...the tallest guy in the league (Yao Ming) ...the most dominant center in the league (Yao Ming) ...a two-time scoring champion (McGrady) ...(probably, if Mutombo re-signs) 23 combined NBA all-star appearances (Mutombo 8, McGrady 7, Yao Ming 5, Francis 3) ...a former Rookie of the year (Francis) ...an Olympic gold medalist (Scola) ...the Spanish league MVP (Scola) ...two of the three finalists of the 1999-2000 slam dunk contest (McGrady, Francis) ...the all-time leading vote-getter in all-star balloting (Yao Ming) ...two NCAA 3-Point Shootout Winners (Novak, Brooks) ...(still) arguably one of the greatest streetball legends ever (Alston = "Skip to my Lou") ...the rookie of the month (Brooks) ...the lightest rookie, with the least body fat (Brooks) ...a three-time NABC defensive player of the year (Battier) ...a former ACC college athlete of the year, John R. Wooden Award, Naismith college player of the year, NCAA basketball tournament MVP (Battier) ...a former high school player of the year (McGrady) ....(probably, if he re-signs) the second-best shot-blocker in NBA history (Mutombo) ...(probably, if he re-signs) the oldest active player in the league (Mutombo) ...(probably, if he re-signs) a 4-time NBA defensive player of the year (Mutombo) So we are at or near the top of the league in height (Yao Ming), all-around skills (McGrady, Francis), dunking ability (McGrady, Francis), speed (Brooks, McGrady, Francis), athleticism (Snyder, McGrady, Francis), shot-blocking (Yao, Mutombo), defense (Battier, McGrady, Mutombo, Yao Ming) three-point shooters (Novak, Battier, Brooks, Head), experience (Mutombo, Francis, McGrady, Battier, etc.), youthfulness (Brooks, Novak, Head), a deep bench with guys who would start on many teams (James, Wells, Head, Hayes) - we have everything! Anyone remember that Les Alexander quote of a few years ago, "one of the great teams ever assembled"? I'm starting to believe it's becoming reality this year... Still would love for us to get someone like Camby, though... Now we just need to start winning...
Yeah, you could say that we are pretty stacked. The Rockets could possible be the best (or second best) team on paper. We just have to produce on that court.
I was thinking along the same lines. We have a hell of a roster, just need to hope it works out as envisioned.
It is simple, we need to prove it and show it to the world... That we are a contender in this league..
how bout tmac yao battier francis head novak snyder hayes lucas the rookies .....all never won a playoff series, just a thought.
Pessimistic... I am optimistic on every season, so I am excited. I don't care if they haven't won a playoff series yet, they will this year!
I'm actually optimistic as i've ever been. I just threw it out there. But I have a feeling this will be a special year.
I have that feeling to. We are extremely deep and have a much better roster overall than last year. I can't wait for November to start, but once football season rolls around, November will be here in an instant.
I'm not being optimistic about us being stacked. I'm more optimistic about an offensive coach that actually exploits the offensive skills of Yao, T-Mac, Francis, Wells, and James
We still have a PF hole. Scola/Hayes won't cut it against the elite. Our backcourt is very good now though.
65wins ? guys? and at least , make it to the semi final ? considering we are slightly edging the Spurs these years , so , final as it is .....which means we are the champion I just feel we are extremely deep and versatile , with one more rebound monster ,we are ready to roll.
