If you haven't had a chance to go, I suggest making the trip...I had a GREAT time. I saw the jousting, Birds of Prey show, and a few comedic shows, and they were all awesome. The people really like to get the crowd involved in the shows. The smoked turkey leg and funnel cake I had also kicked some serious ass. The merchandise was jacked up, as expected, but most of the stuff was great to look at...Especially the swords...When I held that Katana in my hand, I thought of that scene with Bruce Willis in Pulp Fictiono...A few other notes... 1) Some of those people REALLY need to take a look at themselves before putting on those costumes, or go on a diet beforehand. Seeing a 250 lb chick in a chain mail bra and leather skirt is just about as bad as seeing her in a bikini... 2) I can see why archery is an olympic sport. Shooting a bow is a LOT harder than it looks 3) I couldn't even imagine having this thing during the summer...It was easily in the mid 80's yesterday... 4) Bagpipes are truely the invention of the devil himself 5) Did I mention that the smoked turkey legs kicked ass??
The first couple of times you go, it's fun, but then it's the same thing every year after that. When I was in Houston, we used to go every year, but towards the end it was always just for funnel cakes and the turkey legs. Oh, and the Dead Bob Show is pretty funny if they're still doing it.
Ded Bob is still there, but The Flaming Idiots are gone. There's a relatively new act there called Sound and Fury (I think) that play where Ded Bob used to play. They are really funny. I really enjoy the atmosphere, but I have to agree that after a while everything gets old. It's still fun, though. Tree
My favorite show was the Water Well Wynches...I got up there and hugged this big, fat Mimi lookalike so I could get my GF a flower...she lost it, though Sound and Fury was awesome...Fart jokes and homosexual innuendos are always good for a laugh...
