That's just not true. 2002-03 the rockets won 43 games, and that's with Rudy missing the last 10 games. The first year JVG was here, he only improved 2 games.

You know, I really wouldn't be suprised that JVG stays. You now have two different sources saying different things. JVG and the Rockets disavowing such rumors and Peter Vesey and the NY Post saying it's a done deal and JVG is retiring. OK tell ya what. Maybe you hate JVG's playing style. I certainly do. Winning cures a lot of things and love him or hate him, he got the Rockets into the playoffs 2 out of 3 years. That's the biggest statistic in the end. If he won the championship, we'd all be on the JVG bandwagon. Just as he was in New York City.

We scored 99 points that game, so do you REALLY think that the offensive was a problem? At best, Matt Harping is 6-7 while Tmac is 6-10 with a long wing span. The only way Harping would ever score on Tmac is if he didnt play D. There were numerous times when Tmac was lazy on D. Tmac did a lot for us this series, but he could of done a lot more. His problem is he does not bring it for 4 full quarters.

lets say he does step down...how long typically does a team wait until they hire their next coach? Like Morey said....in the next few weeks is when they plan all their offseason personnel decisions. Man i think Rudy T coming back would really lift this citys spirits about this team and also yao and mac because they dont just have a coach who got to the finals, they have one who won back to back ones. Rudy can coach teams to championship contending teams with talent. Same as Phil Jackson.

Every writer at this newspaper is a shameless suck up.
He never took responsibility and they made sure it stayed off of him.

I think after all, Les will just pick up JVG's contract for one more year.

Give him one more year and see if he can turn things around.

To me, it is just wasting time. This year, everything goes to his way and Rox even get the homecourt and JVG still can't get the job done. What make you think next year will be different?

You know I think JVG is a great coach but there is only defense for him. We have not any tactics ofensivly...When you have T-Mac and Yao you have to whink ofensivly not defensivly. Of course our team should defend well but we should attack great too. So hopefully the next coach will use T-Mac and Yao but also will defend well.

Like JVG, Rudy's time has passed. Of course, the difference is that RT is universally revered. BTW, are we sure yet that the stake has been pounded into JVG's heart? :)

[USA TODAY] Rockets deny Van Gundy is leaving team

The Houston Rockets Sunday denied reports that coach Jeff Van Gundy has coached his last game for the team.

The New York Post reported that Van Gundy is leaving NBA coaching, but that his decision to leave wasn't based on the Rockets' first-round loss to the Utah Jazz.

Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said Van Gundy and team owner Leslie Alexander both denied the reports and that Van Gundy planned to speak to the media on Monday. Van Gundy has one non-guaranteed season remaining on his contract.

"We have no idea where the story came from," Luis said. "(Van Gundy) put all his heart and soul into getting to the second round. He was completely taken aback by it and was in disbelief."

Van Gundy has led the Rockets to the playoffs in three of his four years in Houston, but the team has never made it out of the first round.

Luis said that Van Gundy and Alexander have not discussed Van Gundy's future since the Rockets loss Saturday.

Van Gundy told The Houston Chronicle that, "It's just 12 hours after we lost. There has been speculation about my job going on the whole year. Anybody that saying that (he has chosen to step down as Rockets coach), I have no idea why they would say that."

So Jeff Van Gundy isn't done as a Rockets' coach?

Also, JVG DID NOT DEVELOP THE BENCH!! This is more than anything lost the series for us (that and plus that big, no rebouding, turning over softy).

Look at what Utah did with their draftees. Millsap is a stud. Brewer contributed significantly in regular season, even though he did not play in this series. Look at Rockets, VSpan, Novak did not do crap!

You are right man. JVG did not develop bench that's true. But I hope that in that fuc*ing offseason Rockets will take some good FA to the bench who will carry the team when the stars (Yao and T-Mac) will be on bench. But if he stays h also has to change tactics more on ofense. You cannot kill ofensive capability that our team has. You have to play great defense but also OFENSE!

There is a lot of time till the season starts but I'm looking forward to it NOW

The 02-03 Rockets had a core of Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobely, Maurice Taylor, MOOCHIE Norris, and Kelvin Cato.

Three of those players were HUNGRY, and young/spry/trying to make it in the league... (Francis, Moochie, Cuttino).

Two of those guys were getting PAID more than they were worth, trying to justify their contracts (Cato, Taylor).

In the end, three of them are out of the league, one is a max-player bust, and one is a handsomely-paid aging bench player (Mobley).
